Netizens: Stop glorifying viral story of woman who took the Physicians licensure exams while in labor

  • Twitter users urged the public not to glorify ‘dumb’ action of woman who still took licensure exams while in labor
  • Netizens pointed out that the baby had sepsis as a result of Sibuyan’s risky exploit
  • Twitter users expressed disappointment over Sibuyan’s ‘failure’ to assess her and her baby’s safety even when the outcome turned positive

Netizens on Twitter took an issue with the viral story of Stefanelle Atienzar Sibuyan, who powered through her Physician’s Licensure Examinations while experiencing labor pains.

They asked the public not to glorify her ‘incredibly risky’ actions.

Twitter user ‘Rufa Meh’ wrote on Thursday: “Sorry, sis, but this was incredibly risky, and frankly, really dumb. I hope when she does get a patient who is in ACTUAL LABOR, she’d recommend her to go straight to the hospital. Let’s stop glorifying this. This was just… ugh.”

“Ok. I do not know this woman. As the mom, she prolly knew what was best for herself and her child (that FB post doesn’t help matters tho) My concern is for everyone thinking they can still run errands or whatever once they start getting contractions. Nope. Pls get to a hospital!” the poster added.

The user seemed to have deactivated and deleted the viral post which garnered thousands of likes and retweets on the site.

On the other hand, Ben Anthony Lopez, another Twitter user, posted: “Umaygad pls stop glorifying this woman. Even though she passed the test, she failed at the most important question of that day—whether to take the exam or NOT

PS: not cute when you use the pov of the baby, esp since the baby had SEPSIS!”

His post received 2 thousand likes and three hundred retweets as of Thursday.

When another user contested Lopez’s view, saying “i dont understand all the negative comments. she passed her exams. the baby had sepsis but recovered. it is all water under the bridge. HER LIFE.”

The netizen answered back, “Because ruptured bag of waters predisposes the child to infection. The more prolonged it is, the higher the risk of intra-amnionic infection. As a physician, she should be aware of this. Her life, yes. But not just hers, also the baby’s. And also my twitter.”

Another user backed Lopez’s claims, “Exactly my thoughts! The good outcome of her situation was pure luck. As a future doctor, she should have realized that safety of the patient comes first. In her situation, the patient was her and her baby. Not cool at all.”
