Social media star dies after falling down a ravine

A social media superstar famous for climbing mountains while wearing bikinis has died after falling down a ravine during a solo hike.

According to reports, Gigi Wu, known as Bikini Climber, was found frozen to death after a 20m fall.

The 36-year-old was eight days into a 25-day solo hike on Saturday, January 19, when she suddenly called a friend to say that she has fallen a ravine in Central Taiwan‘s Yushan Mountain and was unable to move because of a leg injury.

Rescuers who arrived, however, were only able to airlift her 28 hours after the fall due to poor weather conditions. The mountaineer was already dead by then.

She has frozen to death as the temperature in the area that day was enough to freeze a human, said Commander Lin Cheng-I of the Nantou County Fire Department.

“The weather conditions in the mountains are not good, we have asked our rescuers to move the body to a more open space and after the weather clears we will make a request for a helicopter to bring the body down.”

The official cause of the woman’s death is still unclear.

Wu has scaled more than 100 peaks in the span of four years.

“I put on a bikini in each one of the 100 mountains. I only have around 97 bikinis so I accidentally repeated some,” she said in an interview with a local channel.
