Earphones can be deadly, too; Boy dies wearing his phone accessory

  • Boy died wearing his earphones while being electrocuted.
  • He fell asleep while his earphones were plugged and his phone was charged wearing his earphones that was connected to his charging phone.

Being too attached to one’s gadget[s] like mobile phone[s] is actually not a good thing; just like what happened to a 16-year-old boy.

One Monday, December 4, Mohd Aidi Azzhar Zahrin died of electrocution in his home in Kampung Gais Batu Pedas, Rembau, Malaysia.

It was said that Zahrin‘s mother, who was at work, suddenly felt uneasy and decided to go home early to check on her son.

When she reached home, she found Aidi lying in his bed, in the same position she left him when he was sleeping. The difference was–her son is already unresponsive and cold.

She immediately called a medical officer from a nearby clinic and when the emergency team arrived at their house, it was confirmed that the teenager had been dead for several hours.

There were no signs of bruises, swelling, or injuries but it was said that “there was bleeding from his left ear”.

The postmortem conducted at the Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital revealed that the cause of his death is related to electrocution.

It turned out that the victim was using headphones while his phone was charging. There were also burn marks near the socket where his phone was plugged in.

Such cause of death is not the first, but there has been similar reports in the past. Gabrielle Samuels, 19, of Houston, Texas and Luiza Pinheiro, 17 of Riacho Frio, Brazil also died due to electrocution.
