It a father’s Day episode of GMA Network’s “#SalamatPa“, the show told the story of a father who fostered the four children after falling in love with his would-be wife.

Arlinda Benitez‘s children were still small when her husband died so when she had a relationship with Ruben Benitez, the kids had a hard time accepting their foster father.

Ruben said that he wanted them to like him so much that he would bring gifts for them every time he went home. His first gift to them was something that they didn’t have back then, a television.

He also tried to step into the role of being a father when it comes to disciplining the kids to the point that when he was scolding one of them, the others got mad at him and told him that he’s not even their real dad.

“I seldom hit them. In fact, I feel bad whenever their mother and grandmother spanked them. I would ask them if they could accept me as their stepfather, they refused to answer.”

One of the four children, Gennevie accepted him as their stepfather after three years.

“I was eager to have a dad again because I lost my biological father when I was young. In a way, I grew up without a father figure. “

Ruben expressed how it’s natural for him to love them like his own children as he’s the one that took care of them ever since they were little. And even though he only earns P200 a day from fishing, he still managed to support his stepchildren.

“He wakes up early in the morning. He even goes fishing even if his legs hurt just so that he can earn money for us. Sometimes I tell him to just skip work because he has arthritis. He’ll push through anyway, even if there’s a typhoon.” Gennevie stated.

Ruben expressed that even though they’re not biologically his, he will fight for his children until his last breath.
