Netflix show, “House of Cards” cancelled after sexual allegations against Kevin Spacey

  • Before Netflix’ cancellation of the show, “House of Cards,” a lot of people had called for it due to Rapp’s allegations against Kevin Spacey.
  • Anthony Rapp announced that he was jut fourteen years old when Kevin Spacey had initiated sexual advances towards him.
  • Given the recent issues, a lot of people probably won’t miss the show.

Anthony Rapp said that women speaking out about sexual misconduct in the entertainment industry has compelled him to come forward about Kevin Spacey. He stated that he was invited at a party in Spacey’s home at the time. He also stated that he was the only one at his age range at that time so he settled in watching the television instead. Later that evening, Spacey physically carried Rapp to bed and tried to initiate sex. Spacey was a twenty-six-year-old man and Rapp was just a fourteen-year-old teen.

A few hours after the report against Spacey was published, he sent out a statement saying, “I’m beyond horrified to hear his story. I honestly do not remember the encounter, it would have been over 30 years ago. But if I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior, and I am sorry for the feelings he describes having carried with him all these years.”

He proceeded in saying that, “This story has encouraged me to address other things about my life. I know that there are stories out there about me and that some have been fueled by the fact that I have been so protective of my privacy. As those closest to me know in my life, I have had relationships with both men and women. I have loved and had romantic encounters with men throughout my life, and I choose now to live as a gay man. I want to deal with this honestly and openly and that starts with examining my own behavior.”

A lot of people were angered that he would cover up the sexual advances towards a fourteen-year-old teen with a coming out statement. Although, Rapp was not the only one who shared his story about Spacey’s sexual advances. Tony Montana, a documentary filmmaker, claimed that Spacey groped him in the Coronet Pub in Los Angeles in 2003.

Montana stated that he was in the bar working where Spacey showed up with his friends. When Montana went to order a drink, Spacey had put his arms around him. Montana claimed that Spacey was telling him to leave the bar and come with him. The actor had put his hand on Montana’s crotch forcefully and grabbed his “whole package.”  Montana alleges that a drunk Spacey told him, “This designates ownership.”

These sexual allegations had prompted a lot of people to call out Netflix to either cancel the show, “House of Cards” or just fire Spacey instead. Although Netflix has not said what cause the cancellation of the series, the confirmation came one day after the lead actor was accused publicly for the first time by another actor of sexual misconduct. In a joint statement with Media Rights Capital, Netflix had confirmed that they were deeply troubled by the allegations.

“Media Rights Capital and Netflix are deeply troubled by last night’s news concerning Kevin Spacey,” the companies said. “In response to last night’s revelations, executives from both of our companies arrived in Baltimore this afternoon to meet with our cast and crew to ensure that they continue to feel safe and supported. As previously scheduled, Kevin Spacey is not working on set at this time.”

In spite of the fact that Netflix will be ending “House of Cards,” they may be developing a possible spinoff that does not include Spacey character, Frank Underwood, in the story line.
