- Report claims Philippines is the 11th most dangerous country for tourists
- Philippines is more dangerous tourist country than Lebanon
- Recent incidents affect Philippine’s international relations
In a report of Business Insider, an international online news platform, 20 countries have made it to the list of World Economic Forum‘s Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report. What category?
20 Most Dangerous Countries For Tourists
The said study aims to analyze the state of the travel and tourism sectors in 136 countries. As part of the report, the WEF identifies and ranks the tourist safety of each country. The ranking is something to be taken seriously as it exposes tourists and businesses to security risks ‘mainly related to serious harm to people (violence and terrorism)’.
When the Business Insider released the rankings, many were left in shock. Described as “Keep reading to see which countries you might want to avoid”, it surely is something to consider.
The list goes on from the least dangerous to the most dangerous tourist spots in the world.
20. The Democratic Republic of Congo
17. South Africa
3. El Salvador
Shockingly, Philippines, the home of the most beautiful beaches in the world, placed 11th. After tallying crimes and accidents involving tourists, our country, unfortunately, takes a higher spot in the ranking. In the report, it said,
“In addition to the recent shooting and fire at a Manila Casino [Resorts World Manila], kidnappings are common throughout the Sulu Archipelago and the southern Sulu Sea. Foreigners are often the targets of these kidnappings.”
And yes, the conflict between our government and the rebels affect the international relations of our country. This is an issue not to be taken lightly, tourism used to be our flagship. Being a home to many manmade and natural wonders of the world, this recent report gives the Philippines a bad name.
What do you think, guys? We want to hear from you.
