Teen plunges to her death after taking selfies at the top of 20-storey condominium

MANILA, Philippines. A 19-year-old student’s life was cut short after falling from a roof deck of a 20-story condominium building in Ermita, Manila in the evening of January 5.

The victim identified as Cristina Marie Pagalilauan, a mass communication student at Adamson University, plunged to her death after climbing the parapet wall of Dahlia Tower, Suntrust Parkview Condominium.

Pagalilauan was with her classmate Jonea Mildred Ani when the unfortunate incident happened.

According to homicide investigator Police Officer 3 Al Layugan, Pagalilauan had just finished taking selfies with Ani when she decided to climb the parapet wall.

“Pagalilauan, according to Ani, was not satisfied with the photos they had taken so she decided to climb up the parapet wall,” Layugan told Inquirer.

Because Ani was preoccupied reviewing the selfies they took earlier, she didn’t see how Pagalilauan fell.

Police Officer 3 Amelito Lopez revealed that no one rushed Pagalilauan to the hospital as she was already assumed dead by some witnesses. After being pronounced dead on the spot, her body was brought to St. Rich Funeral Homes by the police.

Based on the police investigation, Pagalilauan’s boyfriend, who is in Mindanao right now, rents a unit at the condominium. Pagalilauan and Ani went to the unit to dye the former’s hair. However, Pagalilauan decided to postpone it in order to take selfies at the roof deck.
