Duterte to donate P1,000 to church each time he swears

Days after being under fire for cursing Pope Francis during his speech as the standard-bearer of PDP-Laban, Presidential aspirant and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte had a meeting with Catholic Bishops on Friday, December 4.

The meeting attended by Archbishop Romulo Valles, Monsignor Paul Cuison, and Bishop George Rimando was held at the Bishop’s Palace in Davao City.

According to Duterte, he made a promise to lessen the use of cuss words and even volunteered to donate P1,000 to Caritas Davao each time he swears.

In his Facebook post, Duterte wrote: “ I told them that I would lessen my use of cuss words. I am even regulating myself and will donate P1,000 to Caritas Davao every time I would swear. I am also planning to visit the Vatican soon. It was a good meeting and I would like to thank my friends in the Church for their time.”

A report by CNN news revealed that Duterte was immediately fined P2,000 before the end of the meeting after saying the words “buang” and “yawa.”
