Help fund this boy’s bone marrow transplant

Maileen L. Garcia from Pasig City has started an online fundraising event for her son’s bone marrow transplant.

marick

Six-year-old Marick was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in November 2011 and has been undergoing chemotherapy up to the present. ALL is a type of cancer in which the bone marrow makes too many immature lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell which fights off infections). The leukemia cells do not work like normal lymphocytes and are not able to fight infection very well. Also, as the number of leukemia cells increases in the blood and bone marrow, there is less room for healthy white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets. This may lead to infection, anemia, and easy bleeding.

According to Maileen, Marick was able to survive the 3-year treatment plan of consolidation treatment and maintenance chemotherapy to destroy the cancer cells. However, he was diagnosed on September 2014 of Testicular Relapse in relation to ALL.

Marick began to take chemotherapy sessions again. In October 2015, it was discovered he had bone marrow relapse. Bone marrow relapse’s treatments involve higher doses and more intensive schedules of the drugs used for initial therapy with or without stem cell transplantation. In most cases, however, transplantation is better than continuation chemotherapy in early marrow relapse.

The family was advised by their doctor to undergo bone marrow transplant which will cost approximately $100,000 or roughly P4,000,000. Maileen says this is the only chance for Marick to be healed from this illness. For now he will undergo chemotherapy for approximately 2 months and radiation therapy to clear the cancer cells in his peripheral blood before he will undergo the procedure.

As such, Maileen opened a Go Get Funding page for her son and humbly asked for help to raise funds for my son in order to proceed with the next step of treatment. Currently, Marick is in the Dr. Victor Potenciano Medical Center.

With such a short period of time to raise such big amount, Maileen is very hopeful and appreciative for any kind of help that could be extended their way.
