WATCH: Virginia TV journalists killed in on-air shooting

WDBJ7-TV photographer Adam Ward and reporter Alison Parker were killed Wednesday, August 26,  in an attack around 6:45 a.m. during a live TV broadcast at the Bridgewater Plaza, which is on Smith Mountain Lake. The broadcast was abruptly interrupted by the sound of shots as Parker and the woman being interviewed, Vicki Gardner of the Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce, screamed and ducked for cover.

Gardner was also injured in the shooting. She had emergency surgery and is recovering.

The suspected shooter has been identified as Vester Lee Flanagan, a former WDBJ reporter who also went by the name Bryce Williams. After the incident, Flanagan took to social media to post rants and video he took of the shooting. The suspect eventually died from a self-inflicted gunshot after a police chase.
