Truly, we now live in a world of cellphone zombies.
Because his mother was too busy fiddling with her mobile phone to bother watching her own son, a toddler died after being run over by a vehicle near a shopping mall at Zhengzhou, China last Friday morning.
The boy, aged 2, was hit by an SUV while inside the mall’s parking lot. Witnesses told China’s Tencent News that the boy was playing on a sidewalk, while his mom was playing with her phone, too engrossed with what’s happening on her screen to notice that the child had strayed in front of a speeding vehicle.
The boy was quickly taken to the hospital, but sadly, succumbed to his injuries. The SUV driver, meanwhile, was taken into police custody. Reports fail to state, however, if the mother will be held liable as well.
