American couple meets Filipino foster child for the first time

Dr. Gary Kraft and his wife Diane were very excited to finally meet the girl they have been sponsoring for the past eight years. From the US, they traveled all the way to the Philippines to see her. This was all documented by their son, Travis, a filmmaker/artist/model who is married to a Filipina, who shared it on his YouTube account.

According to Travis, they hiked for at least half an hour before they reached the young girl’s house in a remote area in Legazpi City, Albay.

A few few meters from the house, they were greeted with personalized banners.

“My dad is so excited,” Travis said, describing how the tough but kind-hearted doctor had been going ahead of everyone, practically running right up the mountain.

When the girl named Ruby Jane came out of the house, Dr. Gary wrapped his arm around her and said, “I came halfway around the world to get a hug.”

Mrs. Kraft also gave her candy snacks to share with her family.

As proof of treasuring all the things they sent her, Ruby Jane gladly showed them a collage poster of her sponsor’s photos.

The young girl’s mother told the Krafts how she felt so blessed because among all the sponsored kids, she’s the only one that received a visit from her foreigner-sponsors.

The doctor said they specifically picked her out from all the different profiles of kids from around the world that they could sponsor. He also added that it’s not by accident. “I picked her out of the whole bunch of people.” Looking at her picture, Dr. Gary told his wife, “I think this one is my favorite one.”

Salamat sa pagpunta dito,” (Thank you for coming here) Ruby Jane told her foster parents. “Salamat sa binigay niyo,” (Thank you for everything you’ve given me).

While talking to Ruby Jane’s family, the Krafts said that they are willing to sponsor her up to college until she becomes a teacher, which is her dream.

“We hope you keep studying hard and hope you’ll become a teacher. We are really proud of everything you do and we just love you so much,” Diane said as they bid goodbye.

Dr. Gary also said, “It was worth coming over here.” To which his wife added, “This is the highlight of our trip.”

As for Ruby Jane’s feelings about her sponsors’ visit, she timidly said “Masaya po.” (I’m happy)
