Man in viral video believed to be abusing his own mother

One of the witnesses at the actual scene of the viral video showing a man abusing an elderly woman has spoken up about the incident.

According to ABS-CBN, the man who uploaded the video identified as Domy D.R., said that the man introduced himself as a soldier. Another witness, one of the security guards named JP Tanteo said that the man and the elderly woman were not passengers, but were only there to stay for the night. Tanteo said that before the said video, the man forcefully dragged the woman, believed to be his own mother, to the waiting area. Afterwards, he already saw the man hitting the elderly woman.

Tanteo also said the man and his elderly mother left the station at dawn when they were able to ride a taxi cab.

Meanwhile, according to GMA News, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is already determining the identity and location of the man on the video. Javier Jimenez, DSWD Assistant Secretary, said the man may be imprisoned for up to 12 years and may be made to pay a fine of P 100,000 to P 300,000.

In a separate interview with Balitanghali, Dinky Soliman, DSWD Secretary, said the witnesses could have done a citizen’s arrest on the man.

Kapag violence against women and children violation, puwede kang mag-citizen’s arrest.

On a final note, Jimenez said, the man could just have brought the elderly woman to DSWD’s Haven in Tanay, Rizal if he did not want to take care of her. Haven is a care facility for the elderly.
