As the only president who declared all-out war against the terrorist groups in Mindanao, former president and incumbent Manila mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada can be considered a person of authority when it comes to the peace issues hounding the region.
According to Erap, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (M.I.L.F.) could not be trusted – they could not be trusted at this time and they could never be trusted back in the days when he was the president of the Philippines.
Erap cited several occasions wherein the M.I.L.F. double-crossed the government even while supposedly joining the peace talks for Mindanao. For this reason, he declared an all-out war in Mindanao.
Thus, Erap thinks the group should not be trusted even when it has now entered into peace talks with the current government. The senate is working on granting autonomy to the region – something that could be quite alarming if the M.I.L.F. continues to double cross the government, claims Erap.
The former president said the group is primarily responsible for the deadly clash between the PNP’s elite Special Action Forces which caused the death of some 64 officers. Though the group claims it was but an “isolated incident”, Erap believes this is not the case because the M.I.L.F. has long clashed with government forces and had killed soldiers even when ceasefire was imposed in the past.
Another All-Out War?
In the interview with ANC’s Headstart, Erap refused to give unsolicited advice to the current administration on how they should handle the crisis or whether President Benigno Aquino should declare an all-out war against the M.I.L.F. and other terrorist groups in Mindanao.
Aside from saying the M.I.L.F. could not be trusted, Erap also pointed out how arrogant these people are. For example, when he was president, he tried to reach out to the group’s leader, chairman Hashim Salamat. Instead of waiting for the president to choose a venue for the peace talk, Hashim declared that Erap could talk to him if the president goes to Mindanao – either at Zamboanga City or Davao.
This angered Erap who thinks he, as president, should not be dictated by someone, especially someone who is the leader of a group targeting the government.
The fact that the group asked for a substate in Mindanao also angered Erap who immediately rejected this term in the peace agreement set forth by the M.I.L.F. . Considering that our country is “too small”, Erap feels that the M.I.L.F. should not be given separate land where they can create their own autonomous government because this will only “dismember” the Philippines.
He admitted that this is the reason why he declared an all-out war against the M.I.L.F. , not against the New People’s Army (NPA) whose “endgame is to overthrow the government or change the people running the government”.
Kung iisipin din naman hindi kasalanan ng milf na may mga namatay dahil sa kung sincere ang mga police sa peace talk hindi sila basta-basta sasalakay, ni hindi sila nagpaalam sa campo ng isang grupo. Kahit nga mismo polise at army hndi bsta bsta papasok sa campo ng isat isa ng walang paalam. Patakaran yan ng mga polise pero sila mismo ang hindi sumunod.
MILF has no discipline and merciless. They are under the peace agreement and yet this happened. If ever that the SAF instigated the shoot off, it is because the MILF are hiding or protecting the VERY dangerous bombers. . Thus,if nagpaalam ang gobyerno sa mga tarantadong yan para hulihin ang mga bombers… edi nacompromise yung case. Again, it maybe true na may misincounter however wala nang dahilan para patayin ang mga injured if naneutralize na yung sagupaan. Furthermore, ano namang kagaguhan ang pagkuha nila ng armas ng mga pulis–that’s utter bul****t.
Then afterwards eh sila(MILF) ang maglalakas loob na magsasabi na may consequences kung di matuloy ang peace agreement. $#eT!!!

Mas hindi naman sincere ang MILF/BIFF kasi why are you hiding a terrorist that might put not just your country but the whole world in danger? If they are really commited to this peacetalk they could’ve surrender themselves the criminal, i doubt na hindi nila alam na nasa terrority nila yun. Anung opportunity ang sinasabi mo? As a citizen of this country may karapatan si X president Erap na magpahayg kung ano ang nasa loobin nya. He was a Predident choosen by the people and he had terrible experiences with these muslim group. Hwag nyong masabing wala syang nagawa sa sambayan when he was the President. I don’t think may kasalanan ang mga SAF. Una, we have a gov’t who maintains peace and order. So the goal to capture a terrorist has been long discussed before the actual serving of capture. Secondly, there was already an ongoing ceasefire. Third, it’s not because the police went in their territory, didn’t the MILF has the right to engage? Why? it’s because of the ceasefire and ongoing BBL deal. As we all know the fight started from morning till late afternoon. Did they (MILF) has no way to contact their leaders to verify if the armed men they suspected if it is a legitimate operation by the gov’t? It’s a lame excuse of the MILF that the police started the shootout w/ MILF considering they were many. Read this: THE MILF COULD HAVE CHOSE TO WITHDRAW AND JUST WALK AWAY. However based from the previous incidents in the Southern region of Philippines I never ever heard that peace has been achieved particularly those areas controlled by our muslim brothers/sisters or MILF. There are few former past presidents who tried to achieved a long lasting peace and yet peace still not being achieved. From Nur Missuari, Hassim Salamat, those muslim leaders never reached a lasting peace from the government? WAR is not an ideal approach to attained the ultimate goal of MILF nor the government. Can please someone define “Justice”? Kapag ba napatay naten lahat ng leader/members ng MILF na yan makakamit na ang hustisya? I doubt na susuko sila ng buhay if in case na magkaron nga ng All out War. Napakadali sabihin na sige patayin lahat yan tutal mas malaki naman ata yung pwersa ng gobyerno compared sa kanila. So after that bloody war ano ba maiiwan at makakamit naten? Parang wala naman ata. Yung mga anak nung namatay na MILF for sure pag laki maghihiganti yun. At magiging walang katapusan tong gulo. Madaming buhay ang nasasayang. Madaming pamilya ang nasisira dahil sa gera gera na napaka pointless. Sakin lang wag niyo sana sabihin na gerahin na sila kasi oo madali sabihin. pero pag may nawala ng buhay hindi na yun mababawi. MILF/POLICE/ARMY pareparehong tao yan. regardless kung sino ang merciless. wag niyo gawing laro to na kapag namatay o nanalo ang isang grupo ganun na lang yun. StrangerX, if you were asked to solve the terrorism? What would you do? If you were a family head and someone threathens your family, would you not eliminate the threat to keep your family safe? It’s a lame excuse of the MILF that the police started the shootout w/ MILF considering they were many. Read this: THE MILF COULD HAVE CHOSE TO WITHDRAW AND JUST WALK AWAY. BUT INSTEAD, THEY SEALED THE EXIT POINT OF THE SAF AND CORNERED THEM. SO IT’S HOW MANY SAF AGAINST HUNDREDS OF REBELS OR TERRORIST? IF YOU ONLY WATCH SOME LEAK VIDEOS OF THIS INCIDENT, DEAD BODIES OF SAF WERE STILL HACKED W/ BOLOS. SOME WERE EVEN SHOT CLOSE RANGE. LASTLY, THE SAF’S EQUIPMENT AND PERSONAL THINGS WERE LOOTED AND SOME REPORT SAYS IT’S NOW FOR SALE. As long as Islam followers believe that they have the right to conquer the world with guns, killing, beheading and other terrorist acts, peace is just a hallucination in Mindanao.

For the MILF to say that it was the SAFs who took the shot first is like saying that our policemen’s rigorous training was nothing as if the fallen didn’t know the rules of engagement. Besides, again if it’s true that those fallen started shooting, is it credible that the SAF has keep shooting at them from morning till late afternoon? They can just simply walk away or withdraw. Instead they know they have the advantage of familiarity, by their numbers, and better guns than our policemen.
