Networking Company Allegedly Used Man’s Photos to Sell Products

A man accused a popular networking company of using his photos without his consent to sell products.

In a report by GMA News, Mach Cadavos claimed that the company used his before and after selfie photos and posted it on the social media Facebook  without his permission to lure customers.

The caption of the alleged used photos says:

“Nasubukan mo na ba lahat ng sabon para matanggal ang pimples mo? Mga friends ito try niyo din… Proven effective. Pimples ay tanggal agad.”

According to Cadavos, he originally posted his photos in a social networking site to share his journey in solving his acne problems to members with similar problems. He revealed that he didn’t use the company’s product, as claimed by the post.

“They really have to tell the truth na hindi ako gumamit ng product nila,” Cadavos stressed.

The National Bureau of Investigation’s (NBI) Cybercrime Division said the company’s alleged use of the photos is a violation of the Anti-Cybercrime Law. The uploading and use of Cadavos’ photos for commercial purposes without consent entails civil liability, says Victor Lorenzo, NBI Cybercrime Division’s executive officer.

Lorenzo also explained that the company has violated the Consumer Act of the Philippines since there is no truth to their claims regarding the product.

Cadavos has already filed a complaint against the networking company.

Through a statement they released to GMA News, the networking company claimed that the Facebook account that posted Cadavos’ photos isn’t their company’s official account.

“The company has no participation whatsoever in the creation and administration of the saod account. The consent of the company was never sought with respect to the creation of the said account, much less to the posting in question.”
