Mobile App tells People that this Umbrella is Available for Sharing

Would you invite a stranger under your umbrella?

Recent graduates of Polytechnic University in Hong Kong which is currently raising funds on Kickstarter website, want to ‘bring strangers together on rainy days’ with a Bluetooth light that attaches to the top of your umbrella and an app alerting people that you are willing to share it. The idea works through a circle-shaped device that light ups whenever you wanted to use it and you can light up the device using your mobile phone through a Bluetooth connectivity. The color of the light will change depending on the temperature. The application can also record the time, date and the route of each journey every time you share your umbrella. It can also track weather reports that will tell if it is going to rain.

For those dismissing the idea, I hope that on a rainy day, you stumble upon a person who’s using it and is willing to share their umbrella with you. This idea may present itself as a unique tool that marries the best of human intentions and technology together.

The project ends on September 17 and has already raised more than two-thirds of its $15,000 goal.
