From India with Love: “The Flying Babies”

The Ritual

Baby-dangling scenes were captured anew in some remote villages  of India giving the global viewers a good shock of their lives. The same triggers intense media scrutiny calling the circus show the pagan rite to stop the public staging immediately.

The Nerve

The poor toddlers as young as 2 years, were on the verge of loosing their tiny tonsils due to wild screaming as Ritual Masters in the shrine’s rooftop dangled them up in the very presence of a rejoicing crowd – and throw their delicate bodies  down – to a stretched canvas held in pride by cluster of faithful “catchers” who are all eagerly waiting from 50 FT plus below.

Their respective parents,  on the other hand,  are also looking-up while waiting for their naked little ‘angels’ or capeless super-babies turn to plummet fast like a shooting star. Perhaps praying to Gods that their fragile newborn would land the bedsheet safe, sound – AND ALIVE.

The Faith

The ancient folklore, report says, have been a common practice in Western India by its Hindu-Muslim aborigines. As a matter of fact, the same is a much-awaited event for 700 shocking years now – most noted in rural corners where child mortality rate counts the highest.  The Fall (the faithful says) ensures GOOD HEALTH for the baby and PROSPERITY for the paricipating couple.

Here’s the video report of the ritual:

So far, no injured little limbs, bones or torso were reported dismembered, injured or broken. And for that reason, the baby throwing-saga lives on.  UNBELIEVABLE! (the no-injured babies  I mean)

  1. Is that where the late MJ got inspired to dangle his own baby at a hotel balcony years ago? Kidding aside, India has so much weirdness going for it and the government seems to play a deaf ear or is just plainly powerless. During my trip to Varanasi last March, I can’t understand how the Indian government maintains a blind eye on the filth and pollution of the river while allowing pilgrims to continue doing their rituals alongside dead bodies being crudely cremated?

  2. Yup! I’ve seen a scenario like that one time in India… Well it’s their ritual… kinda odd for us to consider but as long as it won’t be my baby/ies then I don’t have any problem with that.

Thank you for helping a pathetic like me figuring out what the hell is frame w/in a frame shot…
