Doctor calls out Senseless Signage of Local Government

  • Netizen posts about local health project’s misinformation about the symptoms of Tuberculosis (TB).
  • He also mentioned his confusion about the project, that is said to be worth Php50,000.

The barangay elections just wrapped up sometime ago and it’s now time for the newly-elected local leaders to showcase what they can do. It’s also their duty to put their promised platforms and projects into action.

However, a Facebook user posted his confusion regarding a project of their local government. Dr. Harold Rodriguez Cagang took it to social media to call out misinformation written on a signage, located near their house.

In the post, he clarified that he doesn’t like posting about politics as much as others, but he felt the need to call out the officials regarding the signage.

I dont like to talk about politics. But on certain issues, specially on HEALTHCARE, i can’t help myself but be PROACTIVE (again). Sayang ang akong pagka doctor if I don’t have to stand on issues involving my very own beloved Brgy.

He explained that the signage as seen on the photo is one out of seven that is included in a said Php50,000-worth project. The seven signage contain “health posts/health info”.

Issue: (from a reliable source): This project is ALLEGEDLY P50,000 worth. They made seven (7) “health posts/health info” that looks like this. And this pic below is located FORTUNATELY on the street where our house is located.

Although he hinted that the Php50,000 budget is quite unreasonable for the said project, what bothered him more was what’s written.

In the signage, it is said that there are 6 Fs of Tuberculosis. These are fever, “fawis”, “fayat”, productive cough, “film”, and Filipino.

It was unclear what the supposed message of the sign is but the doctor told the officials that they are supposed to “be LEADERS not MISLEADERS.”

Tuberculosis is a serious and infectious disease that affects a person’s lungs. Some symptoms are coughing up blood, chest pain, weight loss, fever, night sweats, and loss of appetite.

What bothered me is not the price (although i would want to know why on earth this project amounted to 50k?!?), but how/where on earth did they get this kind of information?

To our X Brgy. Officers, this is the outcome of your project. And this reflects your leadership style. You are supposed to be LEADERS not MISLEADERS.

X Brgy Captain Maam Elvie Joverello Elvie Joverello and your Brgy Council Members, please clean up your mess. To the newly elected leaders, pls do something about this. Let us not mislead the community with this VERY WRONG INFORMATION.

Thank you.

“The 6Fs of Tuberculosis” was used by the Asian Medical Students’ Association as a mnemonic for the people to remember the symptoms of Tuberculosis. It is accompanied by an illustration that helps explain the symptoms clearer.

The signage didn’t have any clarification pertaining to the symptoms written. There us a greater danger that the public might be misled by the written message.

At an update posted by Harold, he informed everyone that the message of the signage was already covered and painted in white.

Update: Salamat sa agad agad na action. Na erase na gyud! Good bye 6F’s TB!
