VP Sara Duterte says she hides impeachment issues from detained father Rodrigo Duterte

The vice president also admitted that she fears for her father’s health while in detention.

Sara Duterte revealed that she has deliberately avoided discussing her impeachment issues with her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, who remains detained at the International Criminal Court detention facility in The Hague, Netherlands.

Speaking to members of the Filipino community during her visit to the Netherlands, the vice president said she only wants her father to hear positive news while he remains in detention.

The remarks came after the House Committee on Justice approved on Monday, May 4, the advancement of reports and articles related to the impeachment complaints filed against the vice president through a 55-0 vote.

For the impeachment complaint to proceed to the Senate, it must first secure support from at least one-third of the members of the House of Representatives during plenary voting.

According to Sara, informing her father about the political issues surrounding her would only cause him unnecessary stress.

The vice president also admitted that she fears for her father’s health while in detention.

During the same interview, Sara also criticized the involvement of her family members in the impeachment proceedings against her, saying it was “unfair” since they are private citizens.

“Well, I think it’s unfair because they are not the Vice President and they are not the ones being impeached,” she said.

Her husband, lawyer Manases Carpio, had earlier filed complaints against officials of the Anti-Money Laundering Council and several lawmakers over the alleged disclosure of his bank records during congressional hearings.

Meanwhile, Rodrigo Duterte remains under ICC detention while facing charges related to crimes against humanity linked to his administration’s war on drugs.
