Ramon Tulfo says Philippines may benefit from having a woman president

As conversations about the country’s future leadership continue, Tulfo’s comments have added another perspective to the growing debate on who should lead the Philippines beyond 2028.

Veteran broadcaster and columnist Ramon Tulfo expressed his belief that the Philippines may be better served by a woman president in the future, citing several female leaders whom he believes have demonstrated strong leadership qualities.

During the June 9 episode of his online program ‘Political Beat’, Tulfo shared that he had already advised his brothers, Senators Raffy Tulfo and Erwin Tulfo, not to seek higher office despite recurring speculation about their political ambitions.

“Tutal, marami namang mga magagaling diyan, e. Leni, si Risa. In fact, palagay ko, mas magaling kung babae ang magpatakbo ng ating bansa,” Tulfo said.

The broadcaster specifically mentioned former Vice President and current Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo and Senator Risa Hontiveros as among the capable leaders who could help shape the country’s future.

Tulfo also reflected on the leadership of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, saying she had shown competence in governance during her term.

“Si Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, maganda sana magpatakbo,” he remarked.

He likewise commented on the administration of former President Corazon Aquino, offering his personal assessment of her leadership during the country’s post-EDSA transition period.

Tulfo’s remarks come amid continuing discussions about possible contenders for the 2028 presidential election.

Senator Hontiveros has previously acknowledged that she is seriously considering a presidential run in 2028. Several political groups, including the Akbayan Party-list and Magdalo Party-list, have already expressed support for a potential Hontiveros candidacy.

Meanwhile, Mayor Robredo earlier stated that she currently has no plans to seek a national position in the 2028 elections, choosing instead to focus on her responsibilities in Naga City.
