Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival celebrates student filmmakers and industry veterans

The festival recognized outstanding performances, storytelling, technical achievements, and audience favorites across various categories.

The inaugural Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival concluded with great success, bringing together student filmmakers and seasoned professionals in a celebration of creativity and talent.

Held at Gateway Cineplex 18, Araneta City, Cubao, the festival’s awards night on March 16 showcased the best works from both emerging and established filmmakers.

A total of twenty-five student short films and six feature-length films participated in the festival, with each competition receiving equal recognition during the awarding ceremonies.

Notably, ten student films were also awarded production workshop scholarships, a gesture of support from the Mowelfund Film Institute.

The festival’s finalists were announced in January 2024, with feature films receiving PHP2.5 million grants and student shorts receiving PHP100,000 grants.

Entries were meticulously selected by a committee composed of industry experts, including Puregold CinePanalo Festival Director Chris Cahilig, Republic Creative Business Unit Director Lyle Gonzales, and Puregold Senior Marketing Manager Ivy Hayagan-Piedad.

Among the standout winners was student director Ronjay-C Mendiola, whose film ‘Last Shift’ garnered five awards, including Best Film and Best Screenplay, in the Shorts competition.

In the Feature-Length category, director Kurt Soberano’s debut film, “Under a Piaya Moon,” took home six awards, including Best Picture and Best Editing.

Another notable entry, Sigrid Andrea Bernardo’s ‘Pushcart Tales,’ matched the success of ‘Under a Piaya Moon’ with six awards of its own, including Best Director and Best Ensemble.

The festival recognized outstanding performances, storytelling, technical achievements, and audience favorites across various categories.

Importantly, the Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival extended its run until March 26 at Gateway Cineplex 18, Araneta City, Cubao, providing more opportunities for audiences to experience the remarkable films showcased during the event.
