Ex-Member claims ‘Socorro Cult’ leader can control rain and birds

When asked about these claims during the hearing, Quilario vehemently denied their accuracy, asserting that they were entirely false.

During a Senate hearing focused on the alleged cult-like practices of the Socorro Bayanihan Services Inc. (SBSI), a former member, Regin Raiza Guma, made astonishing claims about the group’s leader, Jey Rence “Senior Agila” Quilario.

Guma asserted that Quilario possesses the ability to control rain and make birds sing through his supernatural powers.

Guma, a former educator who was once part of SBSI, revealed these remarkable assertions during the hearing, recounting firsthand experiences.

She described an incident where Quilario shouted, “Let the bird sing!” and miraculously, a bird complied by singing.

She also shared an anecdote about Quilario allegedly commanding, “Let the rain stop!” during a heavy downpour, and the rain ceased immediately.

Guma went on to explain that she became an ardent believer in Quilario due to witnessing these extraordinary abilities. She even decided to halt her teaching career because of her unwavering devotion to him. However, she eventually left the group in June 2022.

In addition to his control over natural elements, Guma claimed that Quilario possessed the capacity to alter his voice to mimic different individuals. She recalled an incident in which Quilario visited her sick cousin in the hospital and purportedly changed his voice to sound like an old woman and an elderly man.

When asked about these claims during the hearing, Quilario vehemently denied their accuracy, asserting that they were entirely false.

During the course of the proceedings, Senators Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa and Risa Hontiveros questioned Guma about her reasons for joining SBSI.

Guma explained that she and other members were promised heavenly rewards for their unwavering allegiance to Quilario, with the belief that those who did not adhere to the group’s teachings would face eternal damnation.
