Personalities, netizens find irony in Willie Revillame’s plea to set aside politics due to the possible cancellation of ALLTV’s programs

The social media reaction to this news turned out to be jovial. That could be the reason behind Revillame’s plea.

Willie Revillame’s plea came in response to the overwhelmingly celebratory mood of the netizens over the possible cancellation of three flagship programs currently aired by ALLTV.

Netizens and several known personalities raised their brows over TV host Willie Revillame’s recent statement–his response to the critics of his show and the free-to-air channel ALLTV. Numerous news items yesterday, February 4, hinted at the possible cancellation of at least three flagship ALLTV shows, including Revillame’s variety game show, Wowowin. The social media reaction to this news turned out to be jovial. That could be the reason behind Revillame’s plea.

“Set aside niyo ang pulitika ‘di ba? Marami pa kayong malaman sa katotohanan; it’s about frequency, kung alam niyo lang. Ang totoo. Alam ko na lang ‘ho magsalita na pangungunahan ko sila,”  Revillame said in his show, teasing the details he is not yet supposed to divulge.

Before such a request, the TV host-businessman expressed frustration toward the public’s response over the news suggesting his program’s possible cancellation.

Kaya ko lang nakukuwento ‘to, kasi may mga lumalabas kasi ngayon na may mga programa ang ALLTV na mawawala. Eh parang natutuwa kayo na mawawala ‘yung mga programang nagbibigay saya. Sana hindi ganon,” he told his viewers.

Many netizens, however, especially ABS-CBN’s former and current employees, and their supporters, clapped back at the TV host’s statement, with most of them pointing out the irony in his plea.

“NO. The only reason your station existed is because of politics. This is emotional blackmail of the highest order. Hindi kayo ang naagrabyado rito. Your supposed supporters cheered the loudest when ABSCBN was brought to its knees,” differed PBB Connect alumnus Justin Dizon, who reminded Revillame that most of his current supporters rejoiced as well, when ABS-CBN got shut down in 2020. “Where are they now?” he wrote.

Miss Krizzy, similarly denied Revillame’s appeal, accusing the TV host of gaslighting.

“I have zero pity for this kind of drama. Gaslighting at its finest. Now you know the pain of ABS-CBN employees, their families, suppliers, and loyal viewers felt in 2020. Sabihin mo yan kay Camille Villar! Tse!” she tweeted.

“Bat nung kami yung sinarado at hindi binigyan ng Franchise at nawalan ng mga dati naming work pinakinggan po ba kami?” asked DJ Jhaiho, a former jockey for ABS-CBN’s now-defunct FM station, M.O.R. 101.9.

Former ABS-CBN reporter echoed DJ Jhaiho’s statement, wondering,

“Did they consider this too when 11,000 media workers/employees were about to lose their jobs?

Ricci reminded Revillame that the very reason why ABS-CBN got shut down, was because of politics.

“Because of politics, ABS-CBN lost its franchise. And a lot of people lost their jobs. You can’t tell people to set aside politics. If you want to help people, there are other ways to do it,” tweeted @ricci_richy.

ALTStarMagic underscored the fact that one of the Villars, Representative Camille Villar, voted to deny ABS-CBN a fresh franchise, which caused its shutdown, in 2020.

Do not forget that Rep. Camille Villar voted NO on the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN.

“So Kuya Wil, we can’t set aside politics because POLITICS IS PERSONAL and EVERYTHING IS POLITICAL,”

ALLTV, the free-to-air channel that airs Revillame’s game variety show, Wowowin and Toni Gonzaga’s eponymous talk show, Toni are airing on the frequencies previously assigned to ABS-CBN. It is also worth noting that ABS-CBN’s Millennium Transmitter carries ALLTV’s analog signal in Mega Manila.
