PH pandemic response #DoomedtoFail as Filipinos call out IATF, Duterte admin for knee-jerk reactions to a spike in COVID-19 cases

The Netizens seconded the opinion, who pointed out how the government’s half-simplistic, half-militaristic approach effectively doomed the country from the start.

Evidence-based medicine has recently become a buzzphrase on Philippine social media after medical experts criticized the government for their knee-jerk and seemingly backward-thinking solutions to the pandemic.

Netizens continue to be critical of the government’s COVID-19 response after a former health secretary called out the Duterte administration—particularly the National Task Force for COVID-19 (NTF), for sending the country’s pandemic response “10 steps back.”

In an interview, former health secretary Esperanza Cabral called out the government after cases surged well past the month-long 1,000 to 2,000 cases per day.

The Netizens seconded the opinion, who pointed out how the government’s half-simplistic, half-militaristic approach effectively doomed the country from the start.

Even former Senator JV Ejercito chimed-in and said that the Philippines is the only country in the world to impose the wearing of face masks for everyone as part of health protocol.

Netizens were also curious about why the government has seemingly not done anything to curb the virus from spreading–even raising it is an ‘interesting’ conspiracy angle.

They would also hit the government for getting an opinion from the Food and Drug Administration, only to ignore it outright.

Also, the waiting-game for a full-year before deciding to distribute face masks and face shields, two of the required pieces of protection they required from Filipinos.

The hashtag #DutertePalpak continues to trend till this day, days after the Palace has said the government handled the pandemic “excellently.”

Recently, Netizens have poked fun at the NTF’s latest declaration, shifting Metro Manila and the Greater Manila Area to a stricter general community quarantine (GCQ) with additional travel restrictions.

Apart from saying the quarantine is a call back to 2020, Netizens are making fun of the fact that the NTF now refers to the Greater Manila Area—composed of Bulacan to the north, Rizal to the east, and Cavite and Laguna to the south—as “NCR Plus.”

Roque would even justify the NTF using the term, saying “I think it’s a shortcut term referring to Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Rizal, and Laguna.”
