Veteran actress Pilar Pilapil returns to GMA Network after 13 years, praises the network’s professionalism

Pilapil will star in the upcoming romantic series First Yaya along with Gabby Concepcion and Sanya Lopez.

Veteran actress Pilar Pilapil is set to become a Kapuso once again as GMA Network is welcoming her back after 13 years.

Pilapil will star in the upcoming romantic series First Yaya along with Gabby Concepcion and Sanya Lopez.

In a recent interview, she said the Kapuso network has always been professional and the scenes for the series are taped in a more organized manner.

“Sa nakita ko, I always thought that the people in GMA were quite professional. And I see a lot of improvement in their professionalism and organization. Possibly also, because this is a completely different set-up, I noticed that they are more organized,” she said.

Pilar will deliver on what is asked of her regardless of the Network she works for. The only problem she encountered while working for GMA Network was the wardrobe, but other than that she had no serious concerns.

“Nung una nagkakaroon ako ng problema when it comes to wardrobe. But I haven’t encountered much problem here right now. I think they are very organized. Of course, nothing is perfect. But so far, everything has been good and quite organized.”

Her working relationship with the other talents in the series have been good so far. She finds the younger stars to be more obedient and easy to work with.

“So far I haven’t encountered [any problem], especially among the young ones. They are very obedient. They follow instructions.”

The 70-year old is big on professionalism. She recounted how she had to talk to the director about other actors using phones during rehearsals in an earlier project.

“Before I had a teleserye—I would not mention anymore any title or any channel—but I had a teleserye before wherein I saw the actors using their cellphones while rehearsing. And I had to talk to the director about it because hindi naging maayos ang rehearsal because they were using their cellphones. But so far, here, I can see the young actors here have been very obedient. They have been very good in following certain rules that the company had,” she said.

Pilar’s contribution to Philippine television puts her on the upper echelon, and other actors are very aware of this.

Kakai Bautista, who will also appear in First Yaya, said that if given the chance, she’d like to play the role of a maid to Pilar’s character.

“Gusto ko maging yaya ni Tita Pilar. Pilar Pilapil yun, e. Actually, si Tita Pilar, isa siya sa tinitingila namin siya sa First Yaya. Marami ka matututunan sa kanya. Akala mo kasi sa unang tingin sobrang istrikta niya, pero kapag nakausap mo siya, ang dami mo makukuha sa kanya. Aminado naman siya na napakatagal na niya sa industriya. So lahat kami, bow sa kanya,” she said.

Kakai would like to put a smile on Pilar’s face as the latter is known to take things a little too seriously, even when not acting.

“Gusto kong maging yaya ni Tita Pilar kasi alam kong mapapatawa ko siya. Mabi-break ko yung pagkaistrikta, yung ganung impression. Kasi masarap kasama si Tita Pilar, masarap siya kausap, tsaka masarap siya patawanin,” Kakai said.

Pilar won the Binibining Pilipinas Universe title in 1967 and represented the country in the Miss Universe in the same year.

First Yaya is set to premiere on March 15 on the Kapuso network.
