Weddings are often the most expensive occasions that couples would spend or splurge whatever funds they have, but to a Negros Oriental couple, they chose an eco-friendly wedding theme that symbolizes their love for nature.

A Facebook user named Pi Ib-ib, who shared the wedding photos of her cousin Audre Kohinor Ramirez and Jan Valense Geconcillo.

The couple decided to have an eco-friendly theme for their wedding reception held at Barangay Obat, Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental.

On her shared photos, banana leaves were used as plates and bamboo as drinking cups and straw. The food were native delicacies and fruits; all were placed in “bilaos”.

In our interview with the bride’s cousin, she said that the husband and wife are “nature lovers” and are currently working for an NGO. Both were raised by a single parent and they got from their parents the love for the environment and became advocates as well.

The couple has chosen the “farm wedding concept” for it is less expensive and they wanted it to be a “Zero plastic” celebration. That is why with the help of their relatives and friends, they use banana leaves and bamboos to make their eating utensils.

The couples also requested that they prefer to receive agricultural plants as their wedding gifts. Somebody gifted them with an agricultural land where they intend to plant all their wedding gifts.
