Customer rants over a local bank after having multiple unauthorized transactions

  • Laarnie San Diego’s account had 32 unauthorized transactions with a total of almost 50 thousand pesos in just one day
  • BDO had texted her after the transaction has already been done
  • BDO apologized and assured to improve services to their clients

People entrust banks with their money, either for savings purposes or for any transactions that deal with money. But a netizen has encountered problems in a bank, which made her decide to close her account.

A netizen named Laarnie San Diego posted her complaint on Facebook about Banco de Oro’s (BDO) service when her account has been hacked for two times in one week.

I’m a BDO victim for the 2nd time in one week,” she wrote.

It was on April 15 when her account had 32 unauthorized transactions with a total of almost 50 thousand pesos in just one day.

Laarnie stated that she never used her debit card for online transactions; she only uses it to pay her credit card. The BDO texted her after the transaction has already been done.

The following day, she immediately reported it to the branch bank and they let her fill up a dispute form to block her account ATM and request for a replacement.

On April 17, she went to the bank and asked the branch manager to prioritize it because they needed the money. The bank had immediately taken the action and returned her money on the same day but because she only had a passbook, she still could not withdraw the money. It’s was Holy Week and banks were closed.

Since her money was still in the bank, she just checked her account from time to time and to see if there were transactions made on her account. For the 4-day holiday, her account was stable.

On April 22, Laarnie had already decided to close her account with BDO. When she nearly arrived at the bank, she had noticed that unauthorized transaction happened again amounting to 25 thousand pesos, and which means, they would do the same process again.

BDO is aware of their clients complaints over unauthorized transactions with their account which made them released a statement in a press conference apologizing to all fraud victims in January 2018.

We sincerely apologize for the pain and grief that this caused our customers. Nothing is more important to us than your trust that we will be able to keep your money safe and secure. We would like to reassure you that we are committed to investigating and bringing resolution to each and every case brought to our attention.” – BDO

Laarnie wanted to point out that she already filed a complained about the hacker on her account. But then, it still happened which made her ask the bank’s reliability of securing accounts.

On her post, she warned the netizens to watch over their accounts, as she hopes that it would not happen to them.

“Sa lahat ng may account sa BDO mag-ingat kayo or sana wag mangyari sa inyo kung tiwala talaga kayo sa kanila at gusto niyo pa ding magpatago ng mga pinaghirapan at inipon n’yong pera,” she said.
