Filipino newlyweds from Laguna drowned and died in Maldives.
The heartbreaking incident happened on Sunday, January 13, during their honeymoon. Thirty-year-old Erika, an overseas Filipino worker in Saudi Arabia; and 29-year-old Leomer, in Singapore, were married on December 18 and left Manila for their trip on January 9.
They stayed in a resort in Dhiffushi island and went snorkeling. That is when they started frowning.
In a statement from the Department of Foreign Affairs, it was said that the couple was rescued by the resort staff but were pronounced dead upon arrival at the local hospital.
“Authorities were reported to be investigating the incident,” the DFA said.
DFA added that they have instructed the Philippine embassy in Dhaka to coordinate with the Maldives authorities to bring the bodies back to the country.
“The DFA is in touch with the next of kin of the two overseas workers and has assured them of its assistance in the repatriation of their remains.”
