President Rodrigo Duterte urged Indian businessmen to invest in the Philippines assuring them of protection from corruption.

Speaking before a crowd of top Indian business executives here, President Duterte said he would protect all their businesses in the Philippines as long as they would not be involved in corruption.

“If you will do it right, I will assure you of protection,” Duterte said as he encouraged Indian businessmen to invest or expand their businesses in the Philippines.

He assured them that doing business in the country would be “hassle-free” asking them to speak out against any form of corruption in government.

“You are not obliged to even spend 100 pesos for a thing that is legal and you go there upon our invitation. So we invite, we protect,” he added.

He said he would not tolerate corruption in his government reiterating that he would not hesitate to fire any official even with only a whiff of corruption.

He also said that he does not meddle in government’s business dealings.

Duterte and his delegation secured $1.25 billion in investment pledges that can generate at least 10,000 jobs in information technology, tourism, and renewable energy during his three-day visit to India for the Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN) – India Commemorative Summit.

The President’s delegation also met a couple of pharmaceutical companies and has committed to facilitate the availability of affordable and quality medicines in the country and hopefully do the toll manufacturing in the Philippines.

“My dream is just to make my people comfortable and if there is money… It’s not actually really the business or taxes, it’s actually jobs,” the Chief Executive stressed.
