PH Gov’t to work with a Japanese company for MRT 3 Rehabilitation?

  • MRT 3 rehabilitation to be facilitated by PH Gov’t and a Japanese private company
  • Sumimoto Corp. is back to being PH’s partner in rehabilitating MRT 3

Seems like the government heard our cries and opened their doors for a collaboration with a Japanese company to rehabilitate MRT 3.

Finally?

Sumimoto Corp. is being tapped to seal a deal with the Philippine government to facilitate the rehabilitation of Metro Rail Transit (MRT 3) without withdrawing its technical partner, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

It is identified that Sumimoto’s contract as the maintenance provider of MRT was terminated during the Aquino administration. A Korean company, Busan Universal Rail, Inc. took over. Four years later, it’s President Duterte’s time to let go of the contract with the Korean company due to unsatisfactory performance.

The government remains hopeful that Sumimoto will agree on their proposal. As reported by GMA News, the director of Department of Transformation Hope Libiran has confirmed that Sumimoto already sent a diplomatic correspondence regarding the proposal.

The contract includes a three-year rehabilitation and maintenance program for MRT 3. Although the details about the signing of the contract are still unsure, DoT eyes a positive result.
