  • Protester was pinned down by an “alagad ng batas”

It has come to a point where rallies and protests became normal. We see them in Mendiola, we hear them from US Embassy. Every time they make a noise, men in blue uniform surround them? What for? “Security purposes”, at least that’s what they say.

Borderline

But everything has its boundaries, and this police officer has crossed it. As documented and captured by netizen Neil Ambion, he posted what happened on Facebook and instantly reached the timelines of many.

In his story, this unnamed protector of the Filipino people ‘dragged a young girl by the hair’ during an anti-martial law protest in front of the Supreme Court in Manila. Moreover, he detailed that a mild commotion was made when police forces blocked protesters along Padre Faura. Out of nowhere, this officer grabbed the female protester from the ranks of rallyists and ‘pinned her down the street’.

The girl dubbed as ‘Nining’ was said to be a member of Migrante Youth, a vocal organization opposing the government.

In his post he also said,

“That was unjust, uncalled for and vulgarly authoritarian. Just like Duterte’s Martial Law which today was just deemed as valid and constitutional by the Supreme Court.”

Ending his gruesome story by a sarcastic punchline that said, “pakisoli po yung relo kong inisnatch niyo habang hinihila ko patayo yung kasama namin.”

Ashamed?

No video was recorded while Nining was being dragged by the hair, but pictures of the officer were captured and when Ambion was about to confront him, the man refused. The officer also covered his nameplate to secure his anonymity.

There are no follow-up reports on this, but we are sure that this policeman needs to face the consequences. [Photos from Neil Ambion on Facebook]
