Is your parenting style causing your child to get sick frequently?

Did you know that your parenting style and the type of discipline you use can highly influence your child’s health?

As parents, we want to ensure that our kids grow up to be happy, healthy and successful individuals. Depending on your style, you employ a parenting technique that you believe will suit your child’s needs. But recent studies have shown that a certain type of parenting can negatively influence your child’s health and immunity.

According to a study of 164 children aged 11, negative parental behavior including strict parenting affected the effect of meningococcal vaccine over the period of 6 months.

Researchers concluded that exposure of the child to stress as well as parent-child relationship conflict is linked with altered immune system development among children.

This is because primary stress hormone cortisol changes when an individual is stressed. As a result, this could reduce the child’s immunity making him or her fall sick more often.

Another study also suggested that poor parenting, which includes neglect, led to a rise in inflammation and immune activation in kids. In the long run, these conditions can lead to organ damage.

Researchers suggest the use of free-range parenting style.

In order to employ this style of parenting, you need to do the following.

  1. Make sure they are shielded optimally.
  2. Don’t make things too easy for them.
  3. Give them a sense of security.
  4. Provide them enough space to be independent.
  5. Don’t rush them into something they are too young to enter.
