WHO classifies ‘burnout’ as an occupational phenomenon

WHO classifies ‘burnout’ as an occupational phenomenon

  • Burnout is only to be used in the context of work
  • Burnout is not a disease, but an occupational phenomenon

Burnout is described as the state of emotional and physical exhaustion caused by a prolonged period of stress and frustration; an inevitable corporate condition characterized by frequent displays of unprofessional behavior and the refusal to do any work.

Health experts and professionals have long debated whether or not burnout is a medical condition and what would be its real definition.

During the World Health Assembly in Geneva on Tuesday, ‘burnout’ has been put in the category of International Classification of Diseases (ICD) by the World Health Organization.

Burnout is “a syndrome conceptualized as resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed” as defined by the World Health Organization.

Burnout is characterized by feelings of energy depletion or exhaustion, increased mental distance from one’s job, or feelings of negativism or cynicism related to one’s job, and reduced professional efficacy.

Furthermore, burnout can only be described in the occupational setting, not in other aspects of life.

The ICD-11 received experts’ recommendations and these were approved on Saturday. This is to take effect in 2022, which includes “compulsive sexual behavior” as a mental disorder, and video gaming as an addiction.

It has since removed transgenderism from the mental disorder category.

Factors for Successful Dental Implants

Factors for Successful Dental Implants

  • Dental implant is becoming more popular nowadays as the solution people consider for missing tooth replacement
  • Not everyone is qualified to undergo procedure as there are several factors to consider if someone is qualified.
  • Straumann, the undisputed leader when it comes to implant ensures that your investment will pay off.

Dental osseointegration, also known as dental implant, is rapidly becoming more popular. With advances in technology, this is the solution most people consider to replace a missing tooth, as it provides better long-term value than conventional replacement options.

But while dental implants are an effective, most natural, and long-lasting oral care solution, not everyone can undergo the procedure. There are several factors that can determine your viability as a good candidate. Here are a few factors you need to consider.

Choose the best system. The dental implant system you choose is a major factor, if not one of the most important decisions to make for the success of your dental implants. Asking your dentist for the best such as Straumann, the undisputed leader when it comes to implant, restorative and regenerative dentistry products, ensures that your investment will pay off.

Using the latest technological advancements in the ever-changing dental landscape, Straumann guarantees, not only the highest-quality materials, but also the best pre and post operative support for dentists, osseointegration specialists, and patients.

Good general health. It is important for patients to be in good overall health before undergoing treatment for dental implants. Those who smoke, drink alcohol, or have diabetes usually have lower success rates with dental implants since these conditions can negatively affect oral health, which affects the healing process of the implant.

Healthy gums. Healthy gums are necessary to support the new dental implant as it fuses with the jawbone. If you suffer from advanced gum disease, you may benefit from periodontal (gum) treatment to rectify this deficiency prior to receiving implants.

Adequate jaw bone support. For implants to be successful, ample support and structure in the jaw are required. Without healthy, strong bones, an implant can possibly fail. If you are lacking sufficient jaw bone density to anchor an implant, the aid of a bone graft can help create a stronger foundation for successful integration.

Commitment to good oral health. Candidates should commit to maintaining their oral hygiene for a successful implant, and to keep the teeth in good shape. This involves daily brushing and flossing, along with periodic visits to the dentist – these hygiene habits are crucial to preserving the health and strength of your natural teeth as well.

The next time you visit your dentist and consider dental implant as your option, you should ask for the best dental implant system which is Straumann – the world’s leading brand for more than 60 years.

For more information, contact Straumann Philippines at 0917-886-8266 or 0915-890-9107 or email [email protected] Straumann is exclusively distributed in the Philippines by GT Industries.

5 Things To Keep Away To Make Your Vagina Happy and Healthy

5 Things To Keep Away To Make Your Vagina Happy and Healthy

  • There are many trends that are not safe to put inside your vagina
  • Keep these things far from your vagina!
  • Health hazzards should be taken into consideration when following health tips you see in the internet

A lot of beauty trends have been popping up here and there, whether it’s about for healthier hair or clearer skin. Sometimes it’s for you to look better, but on other times, it’s for your prized possession down there.

Yes, we are talking about your vagina.

We listed down a few stuff that shouldn’t actually go near your vajayjay according to gynaecologists:

Vodka Tampons

The alcohol infused sanitary products was first introduced back in 1999 when teen Finnish girls hoped to get tipsy without their parents smelling the booze on their breath.

Soaking your tampons in vodka to get drunk faster isn’t exactly a new trend, but the increasing popularity of the idea is disturbing. Studies say that there are real dangers involved in this risky behavior.

Dr Toli Onon, spokesperson for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) mentioned that Alcohol is an antiseptic and disturbing the balance of ‘good’ bacteria inside the vagina in this way can increase the risk of infection, such as bacterial vaginosis or thrush. It can also be very irritant to the vaginal skin.

Detoxing Pearls

Have you ever heard of the trend called “vagina potpourri” wherein women began using tea-bag-like balls to detox their wombs?

Well, don’t do it because health experts say that you don’t really need to detoxify your vagina. Dr Vanessa Mackay, spokesperson for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) said that the vagina is designed to clean itself with natural secretions and should not require a ‘detox’.

It contains good bacteria that protects it and if those bacterias are disturbed, it can lead to infection such as bacterial vaginosis or thrush, and inflammation.

Vaginal Tightening Wand

While some of you think that it’s ideal to have a “tighter vagina”, a product that promises to do so could automatically be very dangerous.

The wands contain ancient herbs such as high-quality Manjakani and pearl powder which has been used by women in Asia, Arabia and Persia for generations. It is used to dry out the vagina and tighten the opening.

Don’t get convinced by the claims of these products as sexually transmitted diseases can easily be passed when you have a dry vagina. Not to mention that the sex can be very painful for the woman in this condition.

So how will you tighten your vagina without risking your health? By practicing Kagel exercises!

Wasp Nests

If you’ve ever heard of the bizarre “oak galls” that are used for your “vaginal rejuvenation”, it’s best to ignore it.

Oak galls are balls made of bark and excretions of wasps and the product promised to, of course, tighten and clean the vagina. It is also said to be good for a woman’s health and wellbeing.

However, they are not good as they dry up the vagina. They can also disrupt the bacterial balance in the vagina and increase risk of yeast infections and HIV.

Douching Products

Douching is known as the practice of squirting fluids into your V to get rid of unwanted odors.

But it can have serious health implications as the vaginal douching products can increase the risk of contracting human papillomavirus (HPV), which can possibly lead to cancer.

Most health experts vote against the practice as the vagina is already self-cleaning and this may disturb the balance of bacteria which can lead to abnormal tissue growth and other changes to cells within your cervix.

A research from the University of Texas states that douching nearly doubles the possibility of a woman getting ovarian cancer.

5 Things You Should Never Let Anywhere Near Your Male Organ

5 Things You Should Never Let Anywhere Near Your Male Organ

  • There are many risks associated with the process of achieving the “Perfect Penis”
  • Procedures don’t need to be severe to have damage. Sometime simple things can result to negative side effects as well

In hopes to becoming the most attractive man, some are willing to take the risk and follow trends just to have the “Penis Perfection” they are aiming for.

So here are some things you shouldn’t put anywhere near your genitals because they could have very dangerous consequences.

1. Pearls

Pearling is a form of body modification to create an orgasmic experience. It is said to boost sexual pleasure for the female partner as a sphere stimulates the clitoris during the intercourse.

The task involves the manhood being cut open, then an object will be placed inside, before stitching it up again. This procedure is more dangerous than everyone thinks as it can cause many risks associated with the surgery.

Not only can it cause a number of infections, it can also damage the urethra and heighten the chances of erectile dysfunction.

2. Tattoos

Some of you may want to look more badass by putting tattoos in your junks, but this can have some unfortunate side effects.

Like any other part of the body, inking may cause infection and skin damage. You can also be in the risk of getting priaprism, a condition wherein the blood fails to exit the penis, causing it to be painfully erect for a long amount of time.

If you’re really interested on getting a tattoo down there, better get a person qualified with plenty of experience. Also make sure to contact your local GP in case you experience any side effects.

3. Whitening Treatment

It is normal for both men and women to have their genitals darker than the rest of their body.

Some people are self conscious with the color of their manhood, resulting on them getting whitening treatment for it.

However, many health experts have spoken against the tradition saying that it can cause scarring, inflammation, infection and spots. While the risks are not that major compared to the others mentioned, it’s still best to avoid the practice.

4. Hair Removal Cream

Some men are braving the Brazilian!

While it’s fine doing it with the rest of your body, it’s still not the best to use it in your intimate areas as it is strong enough not just to break thick body hair, but also sensitive areas of the skin.

It’s better to avoid burning your genitals while having the protection that your hair has to offer.

5. Your Laptop

Sometimes you don’t need crazy procedures to put your penis to risk. It can be as simple as using your laptop, for example.

It is a known warning not to put your laptop in the crotch area for long periods of time. Experts believe that this electromagnetic radiation and heat can be damaging to the penis, causing ED.

A study from the State University of New York put the theory to test and the results proved that the devices do have an effect to the genital temperatures.

While more research are being done to this issue, it’s best to play it safe altogether.

Is swallowing seminal fluid dangerous to your health?

Is swallowing seminal fluid dangerous to your health?

  • It is okay to swallow seminal fluid as it contains seven types of protein.
  • The seminal fluid, which is the liquid that a man releases upon ejaculation, is different from the actual sperm.

It’s not always a norm to discuss oral sex openly and one of the questions often asked doctors is regarding the dangers of swallowing your partner’s seminal fluid.

According to Dr. Lulu Marquez on a program called “Private Nights” at DZMM, it depends on your partner. If it’s between husband and wife, or in the case that you know your partner really well, then she would say yes, it’s okay. In fact, seminal fluid is known to be a high-protein diet as it has seven types of calories.

Dr. Marquez also debunked the saying that sperms and seminal fluids may dry out if you masturbate too much.

“The sperm and seminal fluid are produced continuously. They don’t run out. And to have a good sperm count, you need to live healthy, eat well, exercise, and drink lots of water.”

She also clarified that the seminal fluid is actually different from the sperm. A male’s sperm is not visible and is contained in the seminal fluid, which is what comes out of the penis when a man ejaculates. It is possible that  a man will release a large amount of seminal fluid but it can contain only a few sperm cells.

“In one ejaculation, it has to contain about 100 million, 150 million, or 250 million sperm count. It’s not always the same. If the number goes down to 20 million and below, it’s not healthy and there’s a possibility that you may not produce a fertilized egg.”

Aside from the sperm count, another matter is the shape of the sperm.

“There’s something called abnormal morphology. The sperm could look like it has two heads, has a short body, or has two tails. Don’t worry as sperms like those cannot fertilize an egg. Any abnormal sperm can never fertilize an egg. It will die.”

In one lifespan of a man, it is estimated that they will ejaculate 7,200 times.

Germs Are Good For Our Kids – Expose Them!

Germs Are Good For Our Kids – Expose Them!

  • Scientist reveals why it’s important to let your kids be exposed to germs
  • Expose children to germs to boost immune system
  • Dirty Kids: How Germs Can Be Your Child’s Best Friend

You may be thinking that you need to sanitize your kids all the time or you need to protect them from all the dirty stuff of the world, but that is not always the case.

One of the most common mistakes of parents are over-sterilizing their children’s environment. It includes immediately wiping the dirt off their hands after they played around the backyard and also keeping them away from animals.

Jack Gilbert, who is a a scientist who studies microbial ecosystems at the University of Chicago, decided to find out what’s actually known risks of modern-day children when they come in-contact with germs.

Gilbert found out that most of the exposure to germs are actually beneficial as it actually stimulates their immune system.

“So that dirty pacifier that fell on the floor — if you just stick it in your mouth and lick it, and then pop it back in little Tommy’s mouth, it’s actually going to stimulate their immune system. Their immune system’s going to become stronger because of it.”

It is also revealed that hand sanitizer is actually often bad for your kid. Replace it with the much safer hot and soapy water as it is probably less damaging to your children’s health.

So what does your child need the most for a healthy body? Gilbert strongly encourage the consumption of colorful and leafy vegetables, food that are rich in fiber and reducing sugar intake.

It’s not dangerous to let your child experience the world. As long as a strong and healthy body, there’s no threat and they would actually get more beneficial exposure from the world around them.

Gilbert is now the co-author of a new book called Dirt is Good: The Advantage of Germs for Your Child’s Developing Immune System.

Study says grandparents who take good care of their grandchildren may live longer

Study says grandparents who take good care of their grandchildren may live longer

  • Study explains why taking good care of a grandchild is healthy for grandparents
  • Babysitting grandchildren may extend the lifespan of a grandparent
  • Looking after kids makes seniors ease stress and be more physically active

According to the latest study, aside from eating healthy foods and exercise, grandparents who take good care of a grandchild is good for their health and extends their lifespan with a lower risk of death for over a 20-year period compared to those grandparents who do not babysit.

Berlin Aging Study to 500 grandparents ages 70 and older shows that those seniors who took good care of a grandchild lived longer, may it be their own or not.

The study which was published in the “Evolution and Human Behavior” explained that babysitting children keep the oldies physically active and help them ease stress but still with limitations because if not, it may only be a health hazard.

Dr. Ronan Factora of the Cleveland Clinic clarified that “You want to make sure that you find that right balance where you are doing what you can to stay active, doing good for the folks that you’re helping out with, but don’t do too much where you get to the point where you’re overly stressed.”

On the other hand, taking good care of young ones by a senior may keep their brains active and healthy as well because of the social interaction.

Dr. Factora continued that “We know that as you age, you want to stay physically active; you want to stay socially engaged; you want to be cognitively stimulated, and all those things allow you to age well.”

He also stated that caregiving a child can help keep the grandparents’ body young since it is also physically demanding.

Drinking 3 cups of coffee a day may help you live longer

Drinking 3 cups of coffee a day may help you live longer

  • Study shows coffee drinkers who consumed three cups a day were found to live longer compared to non-drinkers.
  • Although there are links, reports failed to prove that coffee is truly the reason why coffee drinkers tend to live longer.

Coffee addicts may be drinking their way to a longer life by consuming three cups of coffee a day, based in US and European reports.

The studies published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, which were described to be observational in nature, showed links between coffee-drinking as well as a propensity toward longevity.

The first study carried out by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and Imperial College London involved more than half a million people in ten European countries. Researchers described the study as the biggest analysis of the effects of coffee drinking in a European population.

Their data showed that individuals who consumed about three cups of coffee a day appear to live longer than non-coffee drinkers.

“We found that higher coffee consumption was associated with a lower risk of death from any cause, and specifically for circulatory diseases, and digestive diseases,” said Marc Gunter, lead author of the IARC.

Meanwhile, the second study involved over 180,000 participants of different ethnic backgrounds in the United States. Results of the study revealed that coffee drinkers had a lower risk of death due to heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer, kidney and respiratory disease.

According to the report, participants who drank one cup a day had 12% reduced risk of death compared to non-coffee drinkers. Meanwhile, those who consumed two or three cups a day were 18% less likely to die compared to those who didn’t drink coffee.

However, experts warned that the reports failed to prove that coffee was truly the reason  why coffee drinkers tend to live longer.

Researchers emphasized that drinking coffee does not necessarily prolong life.

“If you like to drink coffee, drink up! If you’re not a coffee drinker, then you need to consider if you should start,” lead author Veronica Setiawan said.

Mom Warns Fellow Parents To Monitor Their Children’s Use of Gadgets After Her Daughter Got Diagnosed With Rare Disorder

Mom Warns Fellow Parents To Monitor Their Children’s Use of Gadgets After Her Daughter Got Diagnosed With Rare Disorder

  • Mom warns fellow parents to monitor children’s use of gadgets
  • Little girl suffers from rare condition from giving too much time to her tablet

Rising problem

The leading cause of stress to kids is their attachment to technology [Photo by Arthur Brock]
One of the leading causes of children’s mind corruption is the vast progress in technology we face right now. Profitable and advantageous, yes. But there’s always two sides of a coin.

Having too advanced technology can mean deterioration of one’s interest in outdoor life. The main casualty of this plague is the youth ages 6 to 12 years old. This is the time when they should be playing outside and getting physically strong. But the status quo now is very different from what it used to be.

Kids tend to choose to stay inside playing with their tablets instead with their friends. Not only it corrupts their mind, but it also weakens their immune system and eyesight.

Mom calls for action

Maricon Molvizar, an entrepreneur, shared her bizarre experience with her daughter on Facebook. The 34-year-old mom has two kids; a 15-year-old son and a 7-year-old daughter.

She narrated the whole story wherein her daughter Mikayla suffered from an unusual but alarming medical case.

She was cleaning their living area when Mikayla shouted for help, thinking that it was only a simple mishap, she acted slowly on it. But when her daughter shouted for the second time, now louder, she got alarmed.

She found out her little girl suffering from a seizure and saying, “Mommy, hindi ko ma-move yung (left) arm ko!” She tried to perform a first-aid procedure, but to no avail, her daughter’s condition got worse.

“Napansin ko na tabingi ung right lips nya at bulol mag salita si mikayla, eh hindi nman cya bulol kung mag salita,” she shared. “Tiningnan ng kapatid ko yung arm ni Mikayla pero no response, pina-move namin yung fingers pero hindi kayang i-fold ni Mikayla kaya minasahe ng kapatid ko. After a few minutes, nagagalaw na unti-unti ni Mikayla ang fingers niya at naka-recover na din,” she continued.

Getting checked up

They, later on, decided to bring Mikayla to the nearest hospital to get her checked. The doctors advised them to perform a CT scan and X-ray for their child to confirm her condition.

Mikayla was soon admitted to the hospital for further diagnosis.

The next thing they know is that they are consulting a Neuro-pediatrician to confirm the cause of Mikayla’s sudden seizure. They performed an EGG and MRI to the child.

The result?

Excessive use of gadgets.

Maricon did not deny that she lost track on what her children are doing–busy being an entrepreneur. “Simula nung nag bakasyon last March 2017, wala ng ibang inatupag si Mikayla kun’di ang iPad niya or [to] watch TV,” she shared.

She is also the first one to take responsibility to what happened with her daughter.

“Is it my fault? Partly yes!

Giving a warning

mom warns fellow parents to monitor children's usage of gadgets

Maricon encourages her fellow busy parents to never neglect their children and observe early signs of focal seizure.

“Early signs? Yes, meron po. First week of June, kinakausap ko si Mikayla at inutusan kong tumingin sakin, sagot niya nakatingin na daw siya pero nakikita kong parang nabanlag siya. Left eye nakatingin sakin tapos yung right eye ‘di sakin nkatingin. Isa na raw yun sa symptoms. Minsan kumakain kami tapos parang na spaced-out siya, then nung tinawag ko siya parang nagulat pa siya kung anong nangyari. Akala ko arte na lang pero isa na din pala yun sa symptoms ng focal seizure,” she warns.

Her piece of advice?

“Kaya po ngayon ay ibinabahagi ko sa inyo kaya dapat each parent should be aware of their child, kahit po gaano tayo ka-busy. Hinayaan ko si Mikayla mag-iPad para ‘di niya ako maistorbo, mostly sa atin (aminin niyo man o hindi) ay binibigay natin sa mga anak natin ang mga gadgets para ‘di tayo kulitin, guluhin o istorbohin sa ginagawa natin. Tayo nga, ‘pag nasobrahan tayo sa Facebook or computer ‘e sumasakit ulo natin. How much more pa kaya mga bata? Hindi ko nga alam na pwede pala magkaroon ng ganitong sakit ang anak ko ‘e, kasi hindi ako aware na pwede pala,” she finishes her post.
