Burnout is described as the state of emotional and physical exhaustion caused by a prolonged period of stress and frustration; an inevitable corporate condition characterized by frequent displays of unprofessional behavior and the refusal to do any work.

Health experts and professionals have long debated whether or not burnout is a medical condition and what would be its real definition.

During the World Health Assembly in Geneva on Tuesday, ‘burnout’ has been put in the category of International Classification of Diseases (ICD) by the World Health Organization.

Burnout is “a syndrome conceptualized as resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed” as defined by the World Health Organization.

Burnout is characterized by feelings of energy depletion or exhaustion, increased mental distance from one’s job, or feelings of negativism or cynicism related to one’s job, and reduced professional efficacy.

Furthermore, burnout can only be described in the occupational setting, not in other aspects of life.

The ICD-11 received experts’ recommendations and these were approved on Saturday. This is to take effect in 2022, which includes “compulsive sexual behavior” as a mental disorder, and video gaming as an addiction.

It has since removed transgenderism from the mental disorder category.

Symptoms include high fever that lasts four to seven days, runny nose, cough, red and watery eyes, and white spots that develop inside the cheeks. After a few days, rashes appear and then it spreads all over the body.

Povidone-Iodine (BETADINE®) is clinically-proven to effectively kill viruses, bacteria and fungi2-5. The products from Mundipharma will help prevent the spread of contagious diseases such as flu and measles, as well as more common ailments like sore throat and mouth ulcers, and skin infections like boils, which may impact the well-being of the prisoners held in the said facility.

Dr. Marquez also debunked the saying that sperms and seminal fluids may dry out if you masturbate too much.

“The sperm and seminal fluid are produced continuously. They don’t run out. And to have a good sperm count, you need to live healthy, eat well, exercise, and drink lots of water.”

She also clarified that the seminal fluid is actually different from the sperm. A male’s sperm is not visible and is contained in the seminal fluid, which is what comes out of the penis when a man ejaculates. It is possible that  a man will release a large amount of seminal fluid but it can contain only a few sperm cells.

“In one ejaculation, it has to contain about 100 million, 150 million, or 250 million sperm count. It’s not always the same. If the number goes down to 20 million and below, it’s not healthy and there’s a possibility that you may not produce a fertilized egg.”

Aside from the sperm count, another matter is the shape of the sperm.

“There’s something called abnormal morphology. The sperm could look like it has two heads, has a short body, or has two tails. Don’t worry as sperms like those cannot fertilize an egg. Any abnormal sperm can never fertilize an egg. It will die.”

In one lifespan of a man, it is estimated that they will ejaculate 7,200 times.

 “So that dirty pacifier that fell on the floor — if you just stick it in your mouth and lick it, and then pop it back in little Tommy’s mouth, it’s actually going to stimulate their immune system. Their immune system’s going to become stronger because of it.”

It is also revealed that hand sanitizer is actually often bad for your kid. Replace it with the much safer hot and soapy water as it is probably less damaging to your children’s health.

So what does your child need the most for a healthy body? Gilbert strongly encourage the consumption of colorful and leafy vegetables, food that are rich in fiber and reducing sugar intake.

It’s not dangerous to let your child experience the world. As long as a strong and healthy body, there’s no threat and they would actually get more beneficial exposure from the world around them.

Gilbert is now the co-author of a new book called Dirt is Good: The Advantage of Germs for Your Child’s Developing Immune System.

According to the latest study, aside from eating healthy foods and exercise, grandparents who take good care of a grandchild is good for their health and extends their lifespan with a lower risk of death for over a 20-year period compared to those grandparents who do not babysit.

Berlin Aging Study to 500 grandparents ages 70 and older shows that those seniors who took good care of a grandchild lived longer, may it be their own or not.

The study which was published in the “Evolution and Human Behavior” explained that babysitting children keep the oldies physically active and help them ease stress but still with limitations because if not, it may only be a health hazard.

Dr. Ronan Factora of the Cleveland Clinic clarified that “You want to make sure that you find that right balance where you are doing what you can to stay active, doing good for the folks that you’re helping out with, but don’t do too much where you get to the point where you’re overly stressed.”

On the other hand, taking good care of young ones by a senior may keep their brains active and healthy as well because of the social interaction.

Dr. Factora continued that “We know that as you age, you want to stay physically active; you want to stay socially engaged; you want to be cognitively stimulated, and all those things allow you to age well.”

He also stated that caregiving a child can help keep the grandparents’ body young since it is also physically demanding.

Coffee addicts may be drinking their way to a longer life by consuming three cups of coffee a day, based in US and European reports.

The studies published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, which were described to be observational in nature, showed links between coffee-drinking as well as a propensity toward longevity.

The first study carried out by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and Imperial College London involved more than half a million people in ten European countries. Researchers described the study as the biggest analysis of the effects of coffee drinking in a European population.

Their data showed that individuals who consumed about three cups of coffee a day appear to live longer than non-coffee drinkers.

“We found that higher coffee consumption was associated with a lower risk of death from any cause, and specifically for circulatory diseases, and digestive diseases,” said Marc Gunter, lead author of the IARC.

Meanwhile, the second study involved over 180,000 participants of different ethnic backgrounds in the United States. Results of the study revealed that coffee drinkers had a lower risk of death due to heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer, kidney and respiratory disease.

According to the report, participants who drank one cup a day had 12% reduced risk of death compared to non-coffee drinkers. Meanwhile, those who consumed two or three cups a day were 18% less likely to die compared to those who didn’t drink coffee.

However, experts warned that the reports failed to prove that coffee was truly the reason  why coffee drinkers tend to live longer.

Researchers emphasized that drinking coffee does not necessarily prolong life.

“If you like to drink coffee, drink up! If you’re not a coffee drinker, then you need to consider if you should start,” lead author Veronica Setiawan said.

One of the leading causes of children’s mind corruption is the vast progress in technology we face right now. Profitable and advantageous, yes. But there’s always two sides of a coin.

Having too advanced technology can mean deterioration of one’s interest in outdoor life. The main casualty of this plague is the youth ages 6 to 12 years old. This is the time when they should be playing outside and getting physically strong. But the status quo now is very different from what it used to be.

Kids tend to choose to stay inside playing with their tablets instead with their friends. Not only it corrupts their mind, but it also weakens their immune system and eyesight.

Mom calls for action

Maricon Molvizar, an entrepreneur, shared her bizarre experience with her daughter on Facebook. The 34-year-old mom has two kids; a 15-year-old son and a 7-year-old daughter.

She narrated the whole story wherein her daughter Mikayla suffered from an unusual but alarming medical case.

She was cleaning their living area when Mikayla shouted for help, thinking that it was only a simple mishap, she acted slowly on it. But when her daughter shouted for the second time, now louder, she got alarmed.

She found out her little girl suffering from a seizure and saying, “Mommy, hindi ko ma-move yung (left) arm ko!” She tried to perform a first-aid procedure, but to no avail, her daughter’s condition got worse.

“Napansin ko na tabingi ung right lips nya at bulol mag salita si mikayla, eh hindi nman cya bulol kung mag salita,” she shared. “Tiningnan ng kapatid ko yung arm ni Mikayla pero no response, pina-move namin yung fingers pero hindi kayang i-fold ni Mikayla kaya minasahe ng kapatid ko. After a few minutes, nagagalaw na unti-unti ni Mikayla ang fingers niya at naka-recover na din,” she continued.

Getting checked up

They, later on, decided to bring Mikayla to the nearest hospital to get her checked. The doctors advised them to perform a CT scan and X-ray for their child to confirm her condition.

Mikayla was soon admitted to the hospital for further diagnosis.

The next thing they know is that they are consulting a Neuro-pediatrician to confirm the cause of Mikayla’s sudden seizure. They performed an EGG and MRI to the child.

Maricon did not deny that she lost track on what her children are doing–busy being an entrepreneur. “Simula nung nag bakasyon last March 2017, wala ng ibang inatupag si Mikayla kun’di ang iPad niya or [to] watch TV,” she shared.

She is also the first one to take responsibility to what happened with her daughter.

“Is it my fault? Partly yes! Kasi nakakausap ko lang siya ‘pag katapos kong mag luto ng food at tuwing kakain kami. Papasok lang ako sa kwarto para paliguin ko siya. Makakatabi ko lang siya ‘pag napagod ako sa ginagawa ko tapos balik trabaho na ulit ako. Mas nabigyan ko ng oras ang projects ko kaya na-neglect ko si Mikayla at hinayaan ko gumamit ng iPad kasi alam kong wala naman mangyayari sa kanya ng dahil lang sa iPad. Most of the time ay either nakaupo or nakahiga lang siya sa kama at para na rin hindi nya ako gambalain sa ginagawa ko,” she confessed.

Giving a warning

Maricon encourages her fellow busy parents to never neglect their children and observe early signs of focal seizure.

“Early signs? Yes, meron po. First week of June, kinakausap ko si Mikayla at inutusan kong tumingin sakin, sagot niya nakatingin na daw siya pero nakikita kong parang nabanlag siya. Left eye nakatingin sakin tapos yung right eye ‘di sakin nkatingin. Isa na raw yun sa symptoms. Minsan kumakain kami tapos parang na spaced-out siya, then nung tinawag ko siya parang nagulat pa siya kung anong nangyari. Akala ko arte na lang pero isa na din pala yun sa symptoms ng focal seizure,” she warns.

Her piece of advice?

“Kaya po ngayon ay ibinabahagi ko sa inyo kaya dapat each parent should be aware of their child, kahit po gaano tayo ka-busy. Hinayaan ko si Mikayla mag-iPad para ‘di niya ako maistorbo, mostly sa atin (aminin niyo man o hindi) ay binibigay natin sa mga anak natin ang mga gadgets para ‘di tayo kulitin, guluhin o istorbohin sa ginagawa natin. Tayo nga, ‘pag nasobrahan tayo sa Facebook or computer ‘e sumasakit ulo natin. How much more pa kaya mga bata? Hindi ko nga alam na pwede pala magkaroon ng ganitong sakit ang anak ko ‘e, kasi hindi ako aware na pwede pala,” she finishes her post.
