Experts reveal a surefire way to win any argument

You don’t always need a law degree to get your point across.

Researchers at Cornell University have recently found several techniques that will help anyone win any debate. By analyzing two years of posts from forum site ChangeMyView, Lillian Lee and her PhD students have identified effective tactics to successfully persuade someone towards a different viewpoint.

ChangeMyView is a forum site wherein users invite other participants to challenge their views and assert alternative opinions on issues. The users post statements and questions and invite others to express their opinion. If another user is able to change the view of the original poster (OP),  then the OP gives that user an award known as a delta.

Here are some of the best ways to win a debate:

Timing: Compared to someone who joins the debate later on, the first person to respond to a thread has a greater chance of persuading the original poster.

Different terms: Using terms different from the ones used in the post creates more impact.
