Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella earns ire from netizens after assisting motorists during traffic

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines. Incumbent Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella earned the ire of netizens after assisting motorists during a traffic jam last March 7, 2016.

A netizen named John Phillips Villar, posted photos of Puentebella which immediately became viral and earned mostly negative reactions from netizens. Villar’s post was written in the local Hiligaynon dialect and he said in his post that Puentebella was just showing off because of the coming elections.

“Ari naman si mayor monico nga into. Pakitang tao!

[Here’s Mayor Monico who is a fool. A show off! Assisting motorists during a traffic jam. There are so many traffic enforcers and he still tries to assist motorists. He can’t already do his job well and yet he attempts to do other jobs!!! What’s the purpose of hiring many traffic enforcers?!?! If this is not to show off, then you are just showing (the public) that you are not an effective leader because you can’t summon them that you had to do the job yourself. In the two years you were in your post as a mayor, you never did this, and now that the elections are coming, you are trying to become a traffic enforcer?]

In November 2015, Puentebella was suspended for 90 days for the alleged overpriced purchase of computer packages worth P26 million funded by his Priority Development Assistance Fund when he was still congressman of Bacolod.
