VIRAL: Did a woman give birth to a two-foot long snake in Koronadal City?

Social media is abuzz with strange news that a two-foot long snake was born to a 37-year-old woman in Koronadal City, southern Philippines. Local radio station Bombo Radyo Koronadal shared the story.

The woman, whose name was withheld because of privacy reasons, had a husband who was living in Manila. The woman’s parents were surprised when she exhibited symptoms of pregnancy even when her husband was not around. She began vomiting and complaining of stomach pains.

With her belly growing, her parents made her take a pregnancy test and it came back positive. Alarmed that she was suffering from severe stomach pains, they took her to a doctor for an ultrasound.

They were all puzzled that the baby did not look like a normal fetus but actually looked quite long. Even the doctor could not confirm if the woman was pregnant with a baby based on her ultrasound results.

Even when her parents took her to three different hospitals, they claimed that none of the doctors could give them a definite diagnosis. So, they took her to faith healers but eight of these witch doctors backed off, saying they could not help her.

The ninth one promised he could help “cure” the woman’s condition. Still, it took the faith healer a month to “cure” the woman. On February 16, 2016, the woman experienced contractions. With the help of a midwife and the faith healer—and surrounded by family and curious onlookers—the woman allegedly gave birth to a two-foot-long creature that resembled a snake.

The woman’s shocked mother took a sharp bagakay (thin piece of bamboo believed to ward off and kill evil creatures and supernatural beings) and killed the creature. The creature’s body was then burned in a bonfire.

While the family requested for anonymity, they did allow people to take photos of the snake before it was burned. Photos of the creature were shared on social media by the local radio station. These soon went viral, with many people believing the story while a lot of skeptics think this was merely a publicity stunt by the radio station.
