VIDEO: Boy drowns after being urged by playmates to jump into Pasig river

MANILA, Philippines. A video showing the drowning of a 12-year-old boy in the Pasig river is making the rounds online. The incident occurred on Thursday, February 18 at around 5 pm along Jones bridge in Pasig.

The viral video, posted by a certain Bartome Hadikain on the Facebook page of GMA News, shows a group of five young boys provoking each other to jump into Pasig river from the bridge. While four of the boys were seen fearlessly jumping from the bridge in the earlier part of the video, one boy identified as Jhayron Malayao, 12, hesitated to follow them fearing that he will drown.

Minutes after his friends plunged into the river, Malayao was seen walking to the side of the river as his friends awaited him in the water. Urged by his playmates to take the plunge, Malayao followed their instructions and jumped into the water.

Unfortunately, that would be the last time that Malayao would be seen as he completely disappeared after jumping into the water. His friends attempted to look for him but couldn’t locate him underwater.

A Facebook post by Anna Fritz is urging netizens to give them information about the body of Malayao.
