Teen fakes own abduction to be with a man she just met

Malaysia. In December 2015, the story of a missing young girl from Port Klang circulated on social media. However, police later discovered that the 14-year-old victim had staged her own kidnapping to be with the man she just met a month ago.

According to Selangor Police Chief Datuk Abdul Samah Mat, they found Nur Amirah Atirah Abdul Majid on New Year’s Eve, five days after she went missing, inside a car in Banting with a 19-year-old man and a 6-year-old girl. Nur then confessed that she made up the story because she did not want to go home and just wanted to be with her boyfriend.

“The phone conversation between the girl and her god sister of her supposed kidnapping by two men in a white van that went viral on the Internet was not true,” said Chief Abdul Samah.

During the time Nur was “kidnapped,” she was reportedly living at the home of a 45-year-old man, a friend of her boyfriend.

Since the case involved a minor, the two men were arrested during the investigation. The chief said that both of them have been detained and will be placed in custody to help in the investigation under Section 363 of Malaysia’s Penal Code which is the “offense of abducting a teenage girl under the age of 16 years old without the agreement or consent of her legal guardians.”

The police also suggested that the 19-year-old be charged with abduction while his friend becomes a witness.

On Wednesday, January 6, Nur was charged in juvenile court for providing false information under Section 196 of the Penal Code, punishable under section 193 of the same law. Her mom, Asmah Mamai, already apologized on her Facebook page about the incident. “I am sorry for any negative consequence that have taken place throughout the time my daughter went missing. I thank all Malaysians who kept tabs on my daughter’s case and I also wish to thank the police for tirelessly looking for my daughter,” she said.
