They are currently in the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), after they were brought there by barangay captain Melvin Santos. According to Santos, the older girl, named Ruth Anne Bonotano, aged 6, had a wound on her face. She said she ran away from their home in Quezon City because her mother physically abused her. The younger child with her is her cousin.

The two were found dressed in oversized clothing said to have been given by a fellow passenger on the bus they ridden to Bulacan.

Santos brought the girls to DSWD with hopes that the office could care for the children while the matter was being investigated. He asked for help to spread the word to help find the children’s families.

Other netizens did a little investigating of their own and found a photo of a young girl who looked very much like Ruth. Robert Lim posted a photo, alongside a screenshot of a post made by an Evelyn Dasas Bonotano from Quezon City. As of this writing, there has been no response yet from Bonotano if this is Ruth or if they are missing a family member.
