Maid who stole from her employer found on Facebook

Netizen Jane Espiritu posted a warning to others about her former helper named Maricel Ampong. Like some unfortunate employers, Espiritu was victimized by a dishonest maid.

Ampong worked for the Espiritu family from 2009 to 2011. In that period, the family lost many gadgets and jewelry. Unfortunately, Espiritu never caught her maid in the act despite her suspicions. Instead of firing Ampng, however, the family opted to let her stay and instead locked up their valuables.

In 2011, Espiritu came home from BF Homes in Parañaque City to find Ampong sleeping with a man in their own house. Espiritu soon found out that the incident was not the first time Ampong had brought a man into their home. A neighbor informed them that Ampong frequently let another man into the house after midnight.

Espiritu confronted the man who happened to be the son of another neighbor. She told them that if they did their act in their home again, she would report them to the police. In the end, though, Espiritu decided to fire Ampong and made her leave the house without any possessions. Espiritu even had Ampong banned from their village.

The following day, Espiritu decided to collect Ampong’s things. To her surprise, she saw boxes filled with plates, silverware, curtains, towels, and clothes for both men and women stored in their garage cabinet. She also found a plastic bag in Ampong’s hamper with a lot of Espiritu’s jewelry. This confirmed her suspicions that Ampong was indeed stealing from them all along.

Since she had already sent Ampong away, Espiritu spent a lot of time looking for her, until she successfully found her on Facebook. She shared the post so that Ampong’s current employer may be warned and be wary of their household help’s records.

Thievery committed by househelp is unfortunately common now in many households.

Once again, employers and heads of households are encouraged to verify their new help’s identities and ask for clearances from agencies such as the National Bureau of Investigation and the police. It never hurts to go an extra mile to make sure you, your family, and your possessions are safe.
