Netizen warns public against new credit card fraud scheme

Credit card fraud such as getting unauthorized funds from an account is becoming more common these days. Scammers constantly find new ways to trick unsuspecting cardholders.

In her Facebook account, netizen Czarlota Acelajado Valdenor decided to share the story of an unnamed couple who almost fell victim to credit card fraud.

According to the post written by the woman whose husband almost fell prey for the scam, an unidentified female who claimed to be an employee of their bank called her husband to offer a Platinum Discount Travel Card. After accepting the offer, the female bank employee promised to have the card delivered within the day.

Hours after receiving the call, a man wearing a black and blue jacket arrived at their doorstep. The man immediately asked for the ID and credit card of her husband who handed him the credit card. A few moments later, the woman discovered that the man had swiped her husband’s credit card with a device attached to his tablet. This prompted the woman to question the man’s intention.

“Ma’am to confirm po kung si Sir ang owner,”  the man replied.

The woman then demanded to have the privilege card right away but the man admitted he didn’t have it with him. She also noticed that the man kept on processing the “transaction” in his tablet but to no avail.

“I was so pissed I grabbed his tablet and tried to look what he was doing but he held on it so tightly so i just grabbed this device which I think is a ‘swiping device’ of some sort, I’m not sure. “

Suspecting that the man was doing something illegal, the woman demanded for the man’s valid IDs. The man was only able to produce a suspicious-looking BIR ID which was issued way back in 1994.

Eventually, the woman was able to confirm with her bank that everything was a complete hoax since the bank wasn’t issuing any privilege card.
