Too Sure He was Winning, Runner Slows Down near Finish Line…And Instantly Regrets It!

He was several paces ahead of his opponents and just meters away from the finish line. University of Oregon’s Tanguy Pepiot was too sure he was winning the race, so he slowed down and began waving at fans to cheer as he moves closer to the finish line.

Unknown to him, opponent University of Washington’s Meron Simon was following closely behind. Simon did not think he had a chance of winning the men’s steeple chase at the Pepsi Team Invitational but simply tried his best, pushing himself to the limit as he neared the finish line.

Pepiot was completely unaware that Simon was quickly gaining ground. When he did realize Simon had just ran past him, it was already too late! For celebrating too early, Pepiot lost his advantage and Simon won the race!

What a rather embarrassing loss…
