A series of coincidences? While many Filipinos have been blaming Miss Stella Marquez-Araneta for choosing a Colombian designer for MJ Lastimosa’s gown in Miss Universe causing her defeat, there has been an unfortunate event for the former Colombian beauty queen and Binibining Pilipinas organizer.
Everybody knows that Miss Stella Marquez-Araneta or SMA as everybody calls her is a former Miss Colombia, and she chose a Colombian local Alfredo Barazza to create MJ’s “cake-inspired” national costume and evening gown. Netizens say this is a “conspiracy” since MJ has a high probability of winning the crown. And yup, Miss Colombia was crowned Miss Universe too. Coincidence?
Why did she choose Alfredo? According to Chisms, SMA told Ginger Conejero of ABS-CBN that Filipino designers were not good enough.
If I didn’t do it for several years, it’s because the designs that were given to us were not good enough for our candidates. That’s the reason I went abroad.
Right after the Miss Universe pageant, SMA tripped over at the Miss Universe parking lot venue. In a report from Fashion Pulis, JuliusOCloset sent photos of SMA being assisted by some people as she tripped at the parking lot. Another coincidence?

Meanwhile, according to Inquirer, when MJ’s name was not called for the Top 5 at the Miss Universe pageant #patayTV and #StellaAraneta went trending on social media.

It’s about time for her to give up the Ms Universe franchise to a true Filipino. SMA is not a Filipino, and she can’t be one. Her loyalty will always remain to her cocaine stricken land Colombia, and her country is a known competitor of the Philippines in international beauty pageant. I will not say that the trash Colombian designer sabotaged the costumes and gown of the Ms Philippines candidate, but it is very obvious that he favored more to their own candidate since he created a very nice and elegant gown for Miss Colombia, while that of Miss Philippines looks awfully ugly and outdated, it’s an insult to those countless brilliant fashion designers here in our country.

i did not watch the pageant but saw her costume, what happened to that costume, she looks funny with the colorful head dress, sabi ko sana she went the filipina way, hair in a bun and nice filipina. modest dress, simplicity is beauty, i am not a designer, but have taste in fashion, that outfit is out of place..
Stella you should have exchanged gowns with Ms. Colombia & MJ? Let’s see if Ms. Colombia would have made it top 5. This is the most crucial part of the pagaent..THE EVENING GOWN COMPETITION because only the top 5 scores in this segment will continue to the top 5 finals. We have so many talented Filipino designers like lajo Laurel etc…COLOMBIAN fashion designers are no better!! So next time pls. consult with several top Filipino fashion designers to come up with their choices. We do not want a COLOMBIAN designer next time because it;s only for a COLOMBIAN delegate and not a FILIPINA delegate. Let us get to that point Stella!!
I DEFINITELY AGREE WITH JASPER..SMA IS NOT A FILIPINO, KAYA HINDI MAKAHIRIT ANG MGA FILIPINO DESIGNERS NATIN NA DI HAMAK NA MAS COMPETITIVE AMONGST OTHER DESIGNERS AL OVER THE WORLD. IT’S ABOUT TIME! YUNG YELLOW GOWN LANG NI MS. ARIELLA ARIDA LAST YEAR, GRABE! ANG DAMING MAS FIT TO WEAR SANA..HAYYSSSS!
