Boy Abunda Recuperating From Surgery, Says He Might Be Back On TV Anytime Soon

Eugenio Romerica Abunda, Jr. aka Tito Boy Abunda has not been present on his TV programs for quite a while. People had been speculating what could have happened to the ‘The ‘King of Talk’ after he has skipped several episodes of “Aquino & Abunda Tonight” and “The Buzz”.

It was then revealed that Abunda was confined in a hospital and underwent surgery due to liver abscess.

Kris Aquino, his co-host in “Aquino & Abunda Tonight” said on Wednesday, “Magpagaling ka pa [Boy] at magpalakas ka and enjoy the great weather and the beautiful scenery wherever you are.”

Also, Gretchen Barretto posted on her Instagram account a picture of Abunda and his long time partner of 30 years with a caption,  “This photo of my dear friend, Boy Abunda with his loving long time partner Bong is simply pure joy. It is an answered prayer to see Boy back to his old healthy, energetic ways. You have been greatly missed, Boy”

News anchor Julius Babao posted on his Twitter account a message from Philip Dada, Abunda’s personal assistant saying that the host is in good condition and currently recuperating.  His boss lost almost 20 pounds during his 2-week hospital confinement. He said that we won’t be seeing Tito Boy anytime soon because he will be on vacation to a place “where there’s sun and fresh air, and hopefully there’s moon too.” Abunda’s also asking for everyone to continuously pray for his speedy recovery.

In an article in Pilipino Star Ngayon, Abunda said his disease was caused by eating too much street food and stress. Knowing him and his commitment to work, he is always in overdrive, hence the sudden fall of his health.

Then yesterday, in the September 7, 2014 episode of ‘The Buzz’, Abunda revealed all the details pertaining to his health condition. He said that he is glad to be back. With everyone asking, “Ano ba talaga ang sakit ni Boy? Parang, ang tagal-tagal, parang nakalabas na siya sa ospital, pero bakit hindi pa siya lumalabas sa telebisyon. Ano ba talaga ang kuwento?”, he answered with, “Bumigay na ho talaga ako. Sobrang sakit po ng aking ulo. Ayon sa nurses na aking kasama, ayon sa aking mga nagbabantay, nagdeliryo ho ako. Nagkombulsyon ho ako. Ang sabi sa akin, nag0chi-chill daw ako sobra, sobrang-sobrang chill, nakakatakot daw akong panoorin. Tapos kinakagat ko daw ang aking dila, I was gnashing my teeth, I was biting my lips, so I was bleeding.”

He also added that he has undergone several tests from Dengue,Tipus, Typhoid, HIV, Hepa, lungs, liver, kidneys, etc. That’s when the doctors found out that he has liver abscess, “Ang ginawa po nila sa akin, nag-aspirate po sila. Gumamit po sila ng pagkalaki-laki, at pagkahaba-habang karayom”. He told The Buzz that almost 300ml of abscess were taken from his liver.

His stay in the hospital was difficult for him. He said that the blood extractions left him very weak. Then continued with, “for the first time in my life, doon ko po naramdaman ‘yung …may episode ho pala, na ikaw lang at ang Diyos, and you are stripped naked of everything.” His doctor also told him that he has been running too fast, thinking of himself as invincible, an iron man. But God reminded him that he cannot do everything.

On August 23, Abunda was discharged from the hospital. He then called Louie Andrada, the unit head of his show, and asked for a vacation to restore and recover his strength.

He also laughed off rumors of him dying. “Sinasabi ko ho ito dahil, I am not dignifying these speculations, but I am acknowledging them. Ina-acknowledge ko na ilang beses akong pinatay ng iba’t ibang sakit. Isang kasinungaling ang sabihin na natutuwa ako sa lahat ng nag-imbento ng mga maling balita. It’s not fair. Okay na ako doon sa mga hindi ko kilala eh, kasi I’m a public figure. Sa lahat sa inyo, na nagnais sirain ako, may intent man o wala, pinapatawad ko kayo. Totoo po ‘yan mula sa aking puso.”

Abunda finished his interview by thanking all those people who had his back when he was in the hospital. According to him, he might be back on ‘The Buzz’ this Sunday.

“Of course, I will continue to do my work on television. I should be back really soon. I will be back. If you want a date, malay ho natin, next Sunday, September 14, baka magbukas na ho ako ng ‘Buzz’ at magsabing: magandang hapon Pilipinas at buong mundo. Welcome to The Buzz.”
