About Orianthi

Learning how to play the guitar from the early age of 6, this Australian musician of Greek descent left school at age 15 to pursue her passion full time and played in a local cover band in Adelaide. When she opened for concerts of Steve Vai and ZZ Top, the door to big time gigs opened up. Carlos Santana during his tour in Australia heard of her and invited her to jam with him during a soundcheck. Carlos was so impressed that he invited her to join him on stage with Orianthi playing for 35 minutes and even had a solo.

At the age of 20, she started to do her own music. She released her first independent record in 2005 called Violet Journey. Carlos introduced her to Paul Reed Smith and she got an endorsement deal and realized her dream to move to America. She then signed a major record deal with Geffen. But it was her appearance with Carrie Underwood at the 2009 Grammy Awards that made her an Internet Sensation.

One day she got a call from Michael Jackson to be his guitarist on some of the concert dates in London. That was heavily documented on the “This is It” concert movie of the ill-fated concert due to the death of Michael Jackson. “Working with Michael was a life changing experience and one will never forget. I learned so much from him.” she reflects.

She released her major label debut Believe in 2009 which includes the platinum single “According To You” which reached #1 in American Top 40.

She then joined Alice Cooper’s band in 2011 and in 2013 together with producer Dave Steward released her new album “Heaven In This Hell” which includes the hit “Better With You”.

Every Road

Orianthi just released her new single this month “Every Road Leads Home to You” which was an original song by Bon Jovi’s lead guitarist Richie Sambora.

She is currently doing her Every Road Asian Tour where she played with Richie Sambora last August 10 in Seoul’s City Break 2014, August 16 in Osaka and August 17 in Tokyo. Now in Manila, for a series of performances and guesting in radio and TV, Orianthi has a busy schedule here.

August 19 she had a press conference where she sang her new single live at Hard Rock Cafe.

  1. She’s one of the “rare” best female rhythm and lead guitarist in the world. I’d vote her the “Jeff Beck” or “Jimmy Page” of the girls! Awesome write-up, Ted.
