There were 125 films shown last year. And most of them were from film festivals like Sinag Maynila, Cine Filipino, Cinemalaya, Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino, TOFARM Film Festival, Cinema One Originals, QCinema, and the recently concluded Metro Manila Film Festival.
Despite a number of film festivals, Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo‘s The Hows of Us topped the highest grossing film in 2018.
In fact, It was the only Filipino movie that has reached the eight hundred million mark in the Philippine box-office which beaten the previous holder of the top spot, John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo‘s A Second Chance.
The movie also held premieres in Indonesia and Vietnam. It was Star Cinema‘s first time to do so in Jakarta.
KathNiel were not just rocking the box-office but the world of fashion as well. They were the cover of METRO Magazine‘s August 2018 issue.
They have been part of ABS-CBN’s line of representatives in the Thailand Network Trade Launch, which is the country’s largest media event. They attended the trade show with Maja Salvador and Jericho Rosales.
The couple has also won the Favorite Foreign TV Actor and Actress award in the Face of the Year Awards in Vietnam.
La Luna Sangre was acquired by MKCS Global became the platform for the show to be aired in Myanmar. She’s Dating the Gangster was also acquired by a Spanish movie channel called Cinelatino.
Last but not the least, aside from the success of their careers, 2018 has also been the mark of the confirmation of Bernardo and Padilla’s real-life romance of more than five years.

In an episode of Rated K, an expert called Master Thomas stated that there are stars that may get pregnant this 2019. One of which is The Hows of Us star Kathryn Bernardo.

Fans recently welcomed real-life couple Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla at the premiere of the intenational screening of their box office hit The Hows of Us.
They visited Indonesia and also held a premiere in Vietnam.
This was the first time that a Star Cinema film held a premiere in Indonesia so it was a huge honor for the two Kapamilya stars.
Aside from the red carpet screening of their movie, Kathryn and Daniel also held a meet and greet session for their growing fanbase in the said countries.
Their schedules are jampacked as it was also revealed that right after the international screenings of The Hows of Us, Daniel will head over to his solo concert rehearsals, and Kathryn will be filming with Sharon Cuneta and Richard Gomez for an upcoming movie.
“Sa mga Filipino and non-Filipino fans namin sa Jakarta and Vietnam, pupunta na kami diyan so sana ma-enjoy niyo ang movie.”
Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla‘s The Hows of Us has reached an all-time high box-office record after surpassing the ₱590- million mark.
The cast and production team of the film recently held their victory party on Wednesday night, September 12. It was attended by artists such as Darren Espanto, Kit Thompson, and Ria Atayde.
ABS-CBN’s current president and CEO Carlo Lopez Katigbak was also present at the event. The executive did not only offer his support but said a few encouraging words to the people behind the successful movie.
“I guess alam naman natin that Star Cinema always produces good movies. But every once in a while, I think you create something that’s special, that becomes a classic. That’s the real masterpiece. Isang obra maestra. And that’s what The Hows of Us is.
“Not just because we got P570 million but also because more than 2 million people have paid to watch the movie that you guys have created.”
He then gave a message to each person that led the team to its unprecedented success, starting with Olivia M. Lamasan who co-produced the film.
“So Olive I just wanna say I know what you’ve been through the last eight months. And this victory is really well deserved for you. Congratulations.”
Katigbak then turned to director Cathy Garcia-Molina and urged her to stay in Star Cinema.
“Cathy, I don’t know if you can hear me. You don’t have to choose between being a mother and a director, you can be both. So sana hindi ka na umalis the end of this year, please stay. Sayang yung galing mo.”
He joked with writer Carmi G. Raymundo, pushing her to get into a relationship soon.
“To Carmi, this was an amazing story. I can’t imagine how much better your story will be after you actually enter to a relationship. So please, coming soon, okay?”
And lastly, he praised Kathryn and Daniel saying that they were at their best in The Hows of Us.
“And to Kathryn and Daniel. What a great performance. Kath, [nagugulat] every time nagmumura ka on-screen. Nakakagulat. But it was the best performance I’ve seen from the both of you ever so congratulations.”

A netizen who was inside a cinema in Maguindanao to watch Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla‘s The Hows of Us did not expect to witness a heartwarming proposal before the film started.
Facebook user Haifah ZinLorh Egal-Padilla shared the romantic proposal in the theater.
She stated that while waiting for the movie to start, photos of a woman suddenly started appearing on-screen. She first thought that those were the photos of the real George who was portrayed by Kathryn Bernardo.
But after a few moments, the words “Selah! Will you marry me?” popped up.

Despite big international cinema releases in the past week, local movies still shone as Sarah Geronimo‘s “Miss Granny” and KathNiel‘s “The Hows of Us” became box office hits.
Miss Granny grossed more than ₱130 million.
Miss Granny continued to draw moviegoers in and reached a single-day gross of ₱21 million on August 26, with 230 cinemas. The movie went on to make money after earning ₱85 million on the first week.
Two weeks later, the Joyce Bernal film is still being shown in 160 cinemas and the gross reached ₱130 million, according to Viva.
₱280 mllion 5-day gross for The Hows of Us.
Just like Miss Granny, “The Hows of Us” also experienced an all time box office high as it experienced a ₱35 Million opening day gross. After five days, the gross of the Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla film reached ₱279 Million.
Directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina, real-life couple Bernardo and Padilla play Primo and George, a couple who are struggling to save their long-term relationship.
The Philippine film industry is not dead.
The success of the two films puts to rest the long-held belief that the local film industry is dead.
Local police arrested 34 moviegoers for not standing up during the Philippine national anthem during a film screening in Batangas on Wednesday, September 5.
According to a police report, the 34 were about to watch The Hows of Us starring Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla in a local mall when Lupang Hinirang was played before the film was to start.
Authorities stated that the viewers showed disrespect to the national anthem by not standing up.
The 34 citizens will be facing charges for violating the Republic Act No. 8491 or the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines. They were detained at the Lemery police station while appropriate charges were prepared for filing in court.
Under Section 38 of the RA 9831, it says that “When the National Anthem is played at a public gathering, whether by a band or by singing or both, or reproduced by any means, the attending public shall sing the anthem. The singing must be done with fervor.
“As a sign of respect, all persons shall stand at attention and face the Philippine flag, if there is one displayed, and if there is none, they shall face the band or the conductor.”
The violation is punishable by a fine of ₱5,000 to ₱20,000 and/or by serving up to a year in prison.
