Netizens question Rep. Miro Quimbo’s promotion of school project outside his district

The project was bid out to Sunwest Construction and Development Corporation, a company linked to former Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Zaldy Co.

Netizens have called out Marikina 2nd District Rep. Miro Quimbo for promoting on social media a school building project that is allegedly located outside his congressional district.

In a post shared by the Facebook group Marikina Against Qorruption, concerns were raised over Quimbo’s public posts about the Marikina Science High School building project, with the group alleging that the project lacks clear permits and has unresolved issues regarding land ownership.

“Pinapasok ang hindi nya distrito! Pinopost na ni Miro kahit wala pang permit! ni hindi nya man lang tinignan kung kanino ang lupa!” the group said.

According to initial information cited by the group, the proposed school building is set to be constructed along Juan Chanyungco Street in Barangay Sta. Elena, an area that falls under Marikina’s 1st District, not the 2nd District represented by Quimbo.

The group also revived criticism surrounding the Department of Education (DepEd) budget, noting that funding for DepEd was reduced in the 2025 national budget. They pointed out that Quimbo’s wife, former Marikina 2nd District representative Stella Quimbo, served as Senior Committee Vice Chair during the budget deliberations.

“Hindi namin nakakalimutan ang ginawang pagcut ng budget sa DepEd budget 2025 na ang Senior Committee Vice Chair ay si Stella Quimbo!” the group added.

The Marikina Science High School is reportedly located within the same campus as the Marikina Polytechnic College (MPC). Records also show that Stella Quimbo previously earmarked ₱950 million for the construction of MPC’s “Smart Campus.”

The project was awarded to Sunwest Construction and Development Corporation, a firm that has been linked to former Ako Bicol Party-list Representative Zaldy Co.

As of this writing, Rep. Miro Quimbo has yet to issue a statement addressing the allegations raised by the group.
