Vico Sotto on Discaya revelations: ‘Wag tayong magpauto sa mga paawa effect nila!’

The couple earlier testified that DPWH officials and politicians demanded 10% to 25% cuts from project costs in exchange for ensuring contract implementation.

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto on Monday, Sept. 8, cautioned the public against believing the testimonies of contractors Curlee and Sarah Discaya, who recently linked lawmakers and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) officials to alleged kickbacks in flood control projects.

In a Facebook post, Sotto pointed out inconsistencies in the couple’s claims.

“Sabi ni Mistermind Curlee ‘2-3% lang’ ng contract cost ang kita nila kada project.. ‘swerte na’ daw kung 5%. Sa ibang project lugi pa daw sila (wow).” Sotto wrote.

He noted this contradicted the Discayas’ earlier statement in an interview where they claimed to be billionaires with money “in the 11 digits,” meaning at least ₱10 billion.

“Paano ka magiging bilyonaryo na ganun sa 2-3% profit?” he asked, adding: “Sinong gagawa ng ganun kalaking krimen para sa 2-3% na kita? Wag tayong magpauto sa mga paawa effect nila.”

The mayor also stressed that even President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had flagged the existence of ghost projects linked to the Discayas’ companies, which were among the top 15 contractors for flood control projects.

“The challenge is now how to sift through the half-truths and attempts to mislead us, not only of the spouses Discaya but of everyone involved,” Sotto said.

The couple earlier testified that DPWH officials and politicians demanded 10% to 25% cuts from project costs in exchange for ensuring contract implementation. Curlee also alleged that Pasig lone district Rep. Roman Romulo was among those who benefited, though the lawmaker has not issued a statement as of press time.
