Director Mark Reyes reveals a single flight suit in ‘Voltes V: Legacy’ costs P350,000

He made a comparison between the price of the suits and an automobile.

Mark Reyes, the director of the upcoming live-action series ‘Voltes V: Legacy’, disclosed additional information about the program’s costly costumes.

At a media conference on April 18, Reyes explained that, in addition to the upgraded visual effects, the show’s production team spent a significant sum on the flight suits worn by the Voltes V team.

He made a comparison between the price of the suits and an automobile.

“When it comes to the costume, you saw naman the flight suits, ‘no, hindi ‘yon tinipid,” he said.

Reyes provided an estimate of the cost of each flight suit to provide viewers with an understanding of the expenditure.

He emphasized the significance of the costumes during action scenes such as the “butterfly return,” a defense strategy employed by the Voltes V team that involves using a samurai to flip the opponent to the ground by pressing their sword firmly between their palms.

The production team was very cautious about preserving the suits during such scenes.

He shared, “With the flight suits, I have to tell this story. We are shooting the butterfly return and bagsak nang bagsak si Steve on the ground so I don’t care ’cause it was called for, ’cause when you see the anime he was really tossing and turning then I notice, gano’n nang gano’n [ayos nang ayos] si Ms. Darling [Torres], our executive producer.”

He continued, “Sabi ko, ‘What’s your problem?’ Sabi n’ya, mahal kasi ‘yan, e. Direk, PhP 350,000 isa niyan.’

“PhP350,000, it’s a car. That’s how much the flight suits cost,” he said.

In addition to the costumes, the production team spared no expense on the set design and other props for ‘Voltes V: Legacy’. The Voltes V team headquarters, known as Camp Big Falcon, was built about a year ago and is as big as three to four basketball courts.

‘Voltes V: Legacy’ is set to air on GMA Telebabad starting on May 8. However, prior to its TV premiere, there will be a theatrical screening from April 19 to April 25 in select SM cinemas. This screening will showcase a special edit of the first three weeks of the live-action series.

Tickets for the screening of “Voltes V: Legacy” are available at SM Cinema ticket counters, SMCinema.com, and the SM Cinema app.

A list of SM Cinema branches showing the movie can be found on their website.
