Sharon Cuneta reacts to Lenlen videos by Darryl Yap

The Megastar Sharon Cuneta recently reacted to his friend and director, Darryl Yap on its Lenlen videos, comical take short films about presidential aspirant Vice President Leni Robredo, running mate of Cuneta’s husband, Senator Kiko Pangilinan.

Cuneta and Yap became friends after Sharon Cuneta starred together with Marco Gumabao in a film, REVIRGINIZED, written and directed by Darryl Yap premiered in August 2021 on Vivamax from VIVA Films and VinCentiments.

During the press conference interview of Iconic, Cuneta’s upcoming concert with Asia’s Songbird, Regine Velasquez on April 18, 2022, Cuneta explained that she does not hate her friend, director Yap who is behind the series, Lenlen circulating on social media.

She also revealed that she does not force anyone to support her husband Sen. Pangilinan and Vice President Robredo and reiterated that people have different beliefs and she does not want to judge them.

“Hindi namimilit ng kaibigan. May kanya- kanyang paniniwala ang bawat isa sa kahit kaibigan ko sila, kahit kamag-anak. I don’t like to judge people according to their choices kasi ayokong jinu-judge ako sa choices ko,” Cuneta revealed.

Cuneta continued by revealing that they had a conversation with Yap about his candidate choice and also appreciate how the director deleted bad comments about her husband, Sen. Pangilinan.

“Si Direk Darryl nag-textan kami before siya namili, sabi ko hindi ko siya pipigilan kung ano ang gusto mo. Inaapreciate ko ‘yung tinatanggal niya yung bad comments about my husband dahil mahal niya ako. Mahal ko rin siya, ” she added.

She then explained that the director is smart but maybe his heart follows a different color.

“Siyempre hindi ko maalis na nasasaktan ako kasi kandidato ko yon di ba, si Ma’am (Leni) kilala ko? That’s really up to him. He’s still my friend. I respect him and ready to (do another) movie with him.”

“Matalino si Direk Darryl so baka ang puso niya ay iba ang kulay. Pero like I said, let’s not judge na lang people. Hayaan na lang sa choices nila.

The upcoming concert of Cuneta and Velasquez, Iconic on June 17 and 18, 8:00 p.m. at the Marriott Grand Ballroom in Resorts World Manila, was first staged back in 2019. It was highly successful and it sold out that it earned the prestigious Aliw Award for Best Collaboration in a Concert.

It will be handled by the finest musical directors, Louie Ocampo and Raul Mitra, and directed by Paolo Valenciano.

The much-awaited concert will be produced by Full House Theater Company.

Salvador “Sal” Panelo who is running for senator sang one of the hit songs that Sharon Cuneta popularized, Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas during Sara Duterte’s meet-and-greet with LGBTQIA+ groups in Quezon City, March 10.

Kakie Pangilinan, Cuneta’s daughter, was quick to tweet featuring Panelo singing Sana’y Wala Nag Wakas during vice-presidential candidate Sara Duterte’s meet and greet in Quezon City to which Cuneta replied to in a now deleted post.

“WHY?!!!Tell me WHY?!! I gotta fight for my song’s rights as well as Willy Cruz’s who wrote it! Cannot be. Di dapat sinisira ang isang classic. Basta TAYO ANG AT MAY ORIG! Oh please WE HAVE NOT ALLOWED YOU TO USE OUR SONG! Please stop. Nakakaawa naman ang kanta namin at nakakahiya.”

Panelo in his apology to Cuneta revealed that he is her fan and the hit song was his favorite song as a way of commemorating his late son, who has Down Syndrome.
